I have a document open, i click on one of the document elements tabs to select a table I want. It displays some tables. I click to select one, then... how do I make the tables display go away?

Ok so I have a white macbook, am running Leopard OS version 10.5.2.
When I am working in a word document (2008 for mac) and I go to save
it I always click the compatibility button first. Sometimes I get the

I can't change the font. I've been trying through Format menu and it doesn't work. I want to change from Times New Roman to Arial, but when I choose Arial it still comes back to Times...
