I have a Mac with Microsoft Office 2008 and I am having difficulty opening

I work from my home and the documents that I create in Word need to be saved as a txt document. When asked about the file conversion I select the western (ASCII). When doing this is changes all of my apostrophes in the document to question marks.

In the old Word, when I saved and closed, the next time the file was opened the doc was placed at the same position it had been. Now, when opening a doc, it always appears at top left.

Any way to retain doc position on screen?

I bought Office 2004 just before Xmas this year so I qualify for the
2008 upgrade.  I followed all of the instructions and sent in my
upgrade package.
My concern is that the deadline is mid-February.  If, for some reason,
