Word 2004 macro peculiarity (show and hide tracked changes)07 Apr 2006 05:41 GMT4
I've just upgraded to Word 2004 (OS X 10.4.5) from Word 98 (OS 9) and
have already started noticing annoyances. Here's the first (more to come).
I have a macro assigned to a keystroke (control-S) to show and hide
tracked changes. (I edit with tracking displayed, then review with
Word 2004 annoyance: toolbars resize windows and don't put them back again06 Apr 2006 22:24 GMT8
This one has occurred since Word 98 and is no different in Word 2004.
You need a special function, so a toolbar appears at the top of the
screen. MS Word resizes the window down to accommodate this toolbar. You
close the toolbar and the document window remains short. So you have ...

Installed Mac OS X 10.4.6 update and opened a previous Word 2004
document, made a small correction, hit CMD+S (to save it), and got a

button, got another dialog box stating that there already exists a file
Word 2004 annoyance: bullets get selected each time the cursor moves to the next paragraph06 Apr 2006 13:00 GMT1
In Word 98 I used option-down arrow and option-up arrow to move to the
next or previous paragraph. Now, in Word 2004, if a paragraph has a
bullet, the cursor moves to the left of the bullet, and every single
bullet in the document is selected (in grey). So I have to press the
SoundRec Objects?06 Apr 2006 12:25 GMT6
When I open a Word document with sound files in them (the speaker
icons) and I double click one, a message comes up that says, "Word
cannot locate the server application for SoundRec objects." So I
right-clicked on one of them and clicked Wave Sound Object>Convert...

I'm having a problem with a Word doc that includes some Excel charts.
The Word doc is a total of 10 pages of combined text and 11 graphs.
The graphs all were created in Excel and then cut and pasted into the
Word doc.  The 10 page Word doc ends up with a file size of 85.7MB.  I

Word 2004 annoyance: position of buttons in bottom bar - lost on the right06 Apr 2006 03:44 GMT3
You know the status bar at the botttom of the Word screen? It has a
button for turning Track Changes on and off. When I have a document open
at normal A4 size (210 mm wide), this button is missing. I have to widen
the window to see it. This obscures other things on the screen ...
Word won't print in black & white04 Apr 2006 12:51 GMT13
All of a sudden, all my Word documents print in red ink. I can't find a
tool to change this. I know it's a Word problem because other programs
(Appleworks) print in black and white. The problem is limited to Word.
I'm a writer and I can't send out manuscripts printed in red ink. Can
How is the latest Word X with HTML conversions?04 Apr 2006 10:09 GMT3
I am using Word 98 and it defenitaly has issues with converting files to

98 I can copy a webpage into Word and all the formatting is lost.  I do
not have this problem with Word XP.  Will I if I bought Word ...

Update cross references on Mac?03 Apr 2006 22:28 GMT4
I have cross-references inserted.  As my document changes, those

I'd like to update all the cross-references.  I go select all, then
context menu - there's no 'update field' command.  I can't use F9
