Well, the good news is that I was able to take it apart, and put it back together without damaging anything. It was by far the most difficult disassembly I've done on a laptop, including my old PB2400. But it was manageable is you don't rush.

I am attempting to upgrade my roomie's Lombard machine with an older but perfectly good 40 GB Fujitsu drive. I also have an equally older but still working Toshiba 8GB drive. Both fail "after some time" when the machine restarts and puts up a "no entry" sign.
