My iBook screen after a few minutes of use goes black. It does not turn off, the backlight is still ON. I press keys and move the mouse and nothing happens. I have to remove the battery and reboot the machine. The same thing then happens again

I have been having problems ever since I installed microsoft word on my 12" dual usb ibook. First it couldn't find an os so I had to reinstall from the system disc (I think it was os 10.2 but am not positive) and in the process wiped out my entire itunes library - still don't know ...
