Sustainer While Changing Batteries01 Aug 2005 00:22 GMT4
A long time ago, I had a 16MHz 68030 PowerBook, with a very short
battery life, so I had a lot of batteries.  To make that situation more
palatable, somebody sold a useful little gizmo:  It was an adaptor that
connected between a regular 9V battery and the AC-adaptor plug.  You ...
Problem updating iPod used on PC (and Apple groups dont know what to do)31 Jul 2005 20:41 GMT8
Anyone know of a iPod or iTunes group out there with any knowledgeable
members on it?
I have tried asking a few questions on the Apple groups and no one replies
to even simple questions, indicating that Apple relies on peers and no one
iBook sleep problems31 Jul 2005 08:20 GMT6
I've got an iBook running 10.3.9.
I don't think it sleeps when I close the lid.  I've been in the habit
of closing the lid and unplugging the power supply at bed-time.  I
noticed that when I opened the lid the next afternoon it had something
12" G4 Powerbook space bar removal28 Jul 2005 09:29 GMT9
I have just spilt beer into my month old Powerbook!!! Luckily the only
thing that is affected is a sticky spacebar. I have read through the
excellent guides at www.pbfixit.com but can't find anything to show how
to remove the spacebar to clean it.
Trackpad bug, all recent year 2005 powerbooks (not iBooks)27 Jul 2005 22:34 GMT3
Hmm, for some reason this post did not show up in "portables" NG, I
hope this does not result in a double posting of the same thread.
Some time ago I erroneously reported a "workaround" in these forums,
for a chronic hardware "bug" that afflicts all  _recent_  year 2005
iBook screen went dead27 Jul 2005 05:19 GMT4
I have a 800Mhz iBook that I bought ~1.5 years ago.
My wife was surfing the web with it when the mouse dies, and then the screen
gets jiggly on the sides. Finally, the screen "faded" (as she says) and the
computer locked up.
Need help choosing Mac GPS vs PC GPS25 Jul 2005 03:20 GMT12
I plan to go on some extended motor trips around the US starting

A friend of mine is using a PC laptop connected to a GPS unit in his

after getting it I discovered that it cannot be used as a boot drive. I
emailed the company and they confirmed this.
I just asked a seller on eBay if his external firewire HD enclossure
Wireless for Lombards22 Jul 2005 20:43 GMT3
I have a friend who wants me to help him set up his powerbook lombard to
work with a wireless network in a restaurant near where he lives, so he
can access his AOL account from there.
The reason I said I'd try to help is because I have an identical lombard

I'd like to marry my old PalmV to my aluminum PowerBook.
I've tired the PalmConnect kit. The kit is recognized by the System
Profiler but Palm's own software doesn't allow a hotsync.
I considered the Palm-USB cable made by Belkin, but according to their
External Cache Failure21 Jul 2005 21:45 GMT2
A few months ago, I had to reboot my first-generation Powerbook G4 to
Mac OS 9. It complained of a faulty cache, but I assumed this was
because of the way I got Mac OS 9 on there.
However, the other day I noticed in Apple System Profiler that the

Can anyone list actual models of solid state (no hard disk) players

that can.  We have an application for hold music on our phone system
How long is reasonable for apple care repair?16 Jul 2005 15:18 GMT4
I bought one of the new powerbook series after the speedbump in February. It
broke in April, the screen wouldn't show, although the backlight came on and
the computer was obviously working as the itunes alarm clock booted the
machine and played music through the speakers.

Hey folks,
I've been having this problem with my Powerbook lately -- basically
