Ibook G4 does not recognise  new memory28 Feb 2005 15:16 GMT3
I have a 11 month old ibook G4.  Was looking to increase memory from
256MB by adding 512MB.  Was given the following spec (200 pin ddr
PC2100 266mhz, 64x64 CL 2.5 SODIMM 8 chip).  I was offered the same
spec except it was PC2700.  (It was cheaper and I was assured it would
Went to Best Buy today...27 Feb 2005 22:13 GMT7
Today I went to Best Buy to see what the competition is offering. Not
that I want anything else than a portable Mac but I wanted to see what
was out there.
-After talking to the store guy, who seemed quite knowledgable, he
iBook trouble27 Feb 2005 19:00 GMT7
My wife's iBook (16Vram, 700 MHz) produced weird screen behaviour for a
moment (a few tries & moves of the display to see if this was the cable
problem) and then crashed (which it has almost never done before). Now
it won't start: initial "bong" as usual, disk spins up but no ...

White Spots in 12" Powerbook?26 Feb 2005 23:06 GMT6
I have a 12" Powerbook (1.33gHz) that is about six months old. It
appears to be developing the faint white spots that affected many of
the 15" machines a short while ago. I checked out the recall page for
the 15" and saw where it shows the spots to be most often. Sure enough,
Replacing HD in ibook26 Feb 2005 17:20 GMT3
I'm about to order an ibook, but I'm not sure whether to get the stock
30Gig HD and upgrade to a larger and faster (7200RPM) HD later, or get
the 80 Gig HD now.  I hear it's a bitch to replace the HD's in these
ibooks, but is it worth it?
Modem problems25 Feb 2005 12:11 GMT2
Hello. Below is the description of my internal modem, taken from the
"System Profile" on my iBook G4. Please note that the country is US or
Latin America. I am trying to use it in Italy and am having lots of
problems. Usually I don't get any sound, even though I've asked for it,
More Battery Bizzarness25 Feb 2005 10:55 GMT2
OK, I was having trouble with my (Titanium) PowerBook battery.  I got a
new battery, and the symptoms changed, but did not go away.
What it does now is to run great from a fully charged battery, getting
close to 5 hours of run time in my typical use mode (and that is with
Macs in Astronomy Page Updated25 Feb 2005 00:04 GMT2
I have updated my page "The Mac in Amateur Astronomy" at
<http://www.davidillig.com/ast-threemacs.shtml>. There is some fluff,
easily skipped, and most importantly, a list of Mac astronomy software,
both amateur and professional. davidillig.com is a non-commercial,

I just bought a 20GB ipod and was thinking about how to hook it to my

powerbook g4 dropped lcd 1/2 out24 Feb 2005 19:08 GMT1
Howdy,
its an onyx, the pb still works fine, and display when connected to
external monitor is fine. I've dismantled and looked for loose
connection but seems ok....display is 1/2 fine 100%, then a sharpline
12" Powerbook fan always on24 Feb 2005 08:06 GMT3
I have a first generation 12" powerbook g4 and i'm getting the urge to
smash it with a bat.   Back when 10.3.4 was released, Apple updated the
kernel extention that controlled the fan and caused it to start at a
lower temperature.  I was annoyed that the fan was always on so i ...
Some questions about ibook screens --23 Feb 2005 17:33 GMT6
I'm about to drop some money (incometax return actually) on a new
ibook, and I'm really debating on whether to go with the 12" or 14"
model.  I know both are the same resolution, and I'm neither old nor
blind, so I think the 12" screen may be big enough -- but when
Pismo Hard Drive, ATA 5? ATA 66? ATA 10022 Feb 2005 21:27 GMT1
I want to upgrade the hard drive in my Pismo.  I see designations of ATA
5, ATA 6, ATA 66, and ATA 100.  I have read in various groups that some
people say the ATA 6 did work in their Pismo, and some that say the ATA
6 did not work.
Wallstreet 266 battery22 Feb 2005 04:38 GMT1
Just tried one of the newertech batteries without success.  The company
said there were known problems with a few Wallstreets.  pbparts has
apparently thrown up its hands on batteries altogether.
Can you ladies and gentlemen recommend another reliable supplier
