Powerbook G4 -- chime, but no boot29 Dec 2004 11:35 GMT4
My wife's Ti Powerbook (1st generation 500 MHz) has had problematic
airport reception for a while. Today, I was unable to start it. The
hard drive begins to spin, it chimes, but the display does not light
and it does not seem to make enough noise to actually be trying to
Sleep mode in new iBook 1.2GhZ28 Dec 2004 18:32 GMT1
All of a sudden my new iBook doesn't want to go to sleep when I close
the lid, but it falls into sleep when I open the lid after noticing that
the sleep mode hasn't started. It doesn't do that regularly and has
begun this since I hooked a TFT monitor to it, but this strange

G4 iBook - Question about RAM27 Dec 2004 21:20 GMT22
I just bought a new iBook (G4, 1GHz, 40GB HDD) with the minimum
amount of RAM (256 MB). My question is: what is the RAM capacity of
my machine? Or can I figure it myself by tinkering with it?
I heard the original G4s could only hold 640 MB max, but the new ones
Orinoco card/Pismo/OSX 10.3.725 Dec 2004 22:29 GMT16
I received a Pismo with an orinoco wireless lan card in the slot and OSX
10.3.7. As we have other macs we also have an airport express station. I
have read that I can make my card in the pismo work with this station,
but I havn't had any success yet. I have the latest drivers for ...

Can you delete music files on the iPod?23 Dec 2004 09:23 GMT1
I have the first generation iPod.  It's obviously a great player.  And,
I hear, the new ones now have a good battery life, too.  Does the
newest iPod allow you to delete files right from the iPod?  This is one
feature that I would find extremely useful in a new MP3 player -- the
any one here uses ichat?22 Dec 2004 23:19 GMT5
I'm relocating a long distance away from friends and family, so I'm
thinking about setting up an ichat system.
Any advice, comments?
My last attempt of doing this was using a webcam on one of my Windoz
"Stupid" PowerBook G4 question22 Dec 2004 20:37 GMT2
I really should know this, but don't. :)
I'm considering the purchase of a G4 (1.5 GHz, 15 inch), and I'm
wondering whether upgrading to the better video chip (128 MB as opposed
64 MB) and the speedier hard drive (5400 rpm as opposed to 4700) will
partition OS X hard drives?22 Dec 2004 17:22 GMT5
Bumping up my wife's iBook to 80 GB hard drive. Is it worth partitioning
it, e.g. 10 GB system, 5GB swap, rest user space? Any particular
problems doing it this way??
With OS 9 & earlier I had good luck with a similar scheme; booting ran
Problems opening iBook CDROM drive21 Dec 2004 20:51 GMT1
My dual USB iBoook has problems opening its CDROM drive after an eject.  It
usually just clicks a couple of times and remains closed.  If I pull on the
drive while it's clicking, I can manually open it (and, of course, the
paperclip trick works).  Looks to me like a hardware problem ...
3400 dim21 Dec 2004 04:47 GMT6
I have a 3400 that's getting pretty dim.  Is this more likely the fault
of the inverter board or the skinny toobs?

wallstreet dark on startup & wakeup w/ 10.2.820 Dec 2004 19:14 GMT5
Wallstreet, 10.2.8, two darkness problems:
1.  On startup (it didn't do this with original 10.2) after a point
early in the booting up, it futzes with the screen, and since the update
to 10.2.8 the illumination is off from that point on, and stays off
