and I'm actually a bit ashamed... I began by trying to run an older version of DVD player that I had backed up which gave me the same problem (although it actually showed me the controls before the error message).

My semi-original iceBook 600 has a 12.1 inch screen. Are the new iBook 12's really only 12 inches, or are they actually 12.1 also? Thanks David

just out of curiosity how many people are receiving new units with bad pixels. I know from PC laptop use, it isn't that rare. what is apples policy with replacing a unit with bad pixels, and would the apple care differ from their policy if there is one?

yesterday I observed the second hard iBook crash. While FileMaker 6 did some lengthy replace operations suddenly some text appeared, telling me about the system crash, trying to contact some debugger (via unconnected/not initialized network to IP 0.0.0.0).
