| iBook G4 logic board failure | 19 Feb 2004 02:51 GMT | 2 |
Just got back from the Apple Store, and the staff there confirmed that my iBook G4 has a logic board failure. Same symptoms as those that plagued the G3 series. Thankfully it's still under warranty, so the only cost to me is downtime.

| Installing OS X on a G3 Powerbook (500mhz, 512ram) | 16 Feb 2004 16:37 GMT | 17 |
I've had no joy in trying to install jaguar on my g3. I've got it up and running 4x's with separate settings only for it to collapse when setting it up with my personal preferences. This I did after partitioning my disk and erasing it several X's. By collapsing I mean

| Scrolling windows - slow compared to os9 | 15 Feb 2004 20:39 GMT | 7 |
I am finding the annoying pause (mainly), and also the way pages scroll slowly at first before speeding up, makes osx feel crappy for web browsing and stuff, and the smooth scrolling option seems to make things worse. Is there any way to improve this situation?

I've been contemplating replacing my OS 8.6 with a version of OS X -- I want to run iTunes, iChat, etc. A Mac techie advised that my Pbook G3/333MHz (Bronze keybd; a "Lombard"?) may hang up w/OS X. Is this so? Tell me I "don't" have to buy a G4, puh-leaze. (:-0
