iBook G4 logic board failure19 Feb 2004 02:51 GMT2
Just got back from the Apple Store, and the staff there confirmed that
my iBook G4 has a logic board failure. Same symptoms as those that
plagued the G3 series. Thankfully it's still under warranty, so the only
cost to me is downtime.

Hi, this is probably real simple, but I don't know macs.  My friend
has a Mac PowerBook 140 that he hasn't used in a few years.  When we
power it on we get a blinking graphic of a diskette on the screen and
that's all. How do we get beyond this and get the OS loaded?  Info on

cardbus standard-mac vs. pc17 Feb 2004 16:38 GMT3
Howdy,
is the cardbus spec standardized between macs and pcs such that I can
plug a cardbus card in both a mac and a pc without damaging the card
and/or the computer? I'm aware that cards may not work because of

GarageBand on TiBook DVI17 Feb 2004 02:50 GMT3
anybody else having problems with GarageBand on a TiBook DVI? After
installing iLife, all I get is a crash while GB is initializing. The
other iLife apps work. Bummer, I bought iLife mainly for GB.

Installing OS X on a G3 Powerbook (500mhz, 512ram)16 Feb 2004 16:37 GMT17
I've had no joy in trying to install jaguar on my g3.  I've got it up
and running 4x's with separate settings only for it to collapse when
setting it up with my personal preferences.  This I did after
partitioning my disk and erasing it several X's.  By collapsing I mean
IBM's 970FX CPU about to ship?16 Feb 2004 13:06 GMT3
If, as widely hypothesized, IBM announces next week that their new
970FX 90nm CPU is being produced in quantity and shipping, how long
before we'll see a 17-inch G5 PowerBook?
OS X on an iBook clamshell16 Feb 2004 07:23 GMT5
HI. I have an iBook turqoise with a 3Gb Hard drive and 64 Mb RAM. It
is running 8.6, but I want to take it to OS X. When proceeding, the
system restarts normally and reaches the installer stage where I
select the language I want to use. And it seems to hang there - I've
DVD on a Lombard under 10.316 Feb 2004 04:38 GMT3
After upgrading my Lombard 400MHz PowerBook to run 10.3 I find that I
can no longer play DVDs. I get an error message stating "DVD player does
not support the machine or system configuration". It used to play under
system 9 but I opted not to install Classic.
Scrolling windows - slow compared to os915 Feb 2004 20:39 GMT7
I am finding the annoying pause (mainly), and also the way pages scroll
slowly at first before speeding up, makes osx feel crappy for web
browsing and stuff, and the smooth scrolling option seems to make things
worse. Is there any way to improve this situation?
Will OS X run on Pbk G3/333MHz?15 Feb 2004 17:22 GMT16
I've been contemplating replacing my OS 8.6 with a version of OS X --
I want to run iTunes, iChat, etc. A Mac techie advised that my Pbook
G3/333MHz (Bronze keybd; a "Lombard"?) may hang up w/OS X. Is this so?
Tell me I "don't" have to buy a G4, puh-leaze.  (:-0
