Operating system failure27 Jun 2008 19:34 GMT11
I recently switched from the Mac OS 10.3X, which was working, to the OS 9.5
(start-up disc, I guess?) and now nothing works. It boots to an icon looking
like a 3.5 floopy disc, with a question mark blinking inside it. I can hear a
clicking sound and after a few minutes, the computer ...
eMac forced shutdown problem27 Jun 2008 01:21 GMT5
I'm posting this in the comp.sys.mac.system group because the hardware
group has little traffic, and I really need to get some answers (and my
issue is system-related as well as hardware-related).
To recap my previous posts, my eMac was having trouble starting up. I
diskwarrior26 Jun 2008 21:55 GMT1
HI All, some of you helped me recently with a failed external drive
(after the firewire was detached while downloading).
Disk Utility didn't work, so I finally got DiskWarrior. Running this to
rebuild the directory resulted in a message:

eMac power socket/power switch22 Jun 2008 04:02 GMT4
I have an eMac 700MHz model (the original one). For the past week, it
has had trouble starting up. I have to press the switch really hard
and/or unplug the power cord where it's connected to the eMac, replug
it, and press really hard, and then it starts up. IOW, I can't tell what ...
Using SATA to IDE converter with G4 Sawtooth; will it recognize the     full drive?18 Jun 2008 03:44 GMT3
I'm still enjoying life with my old G4 (I think it is a Sawtooth
model). I recall from the past that the ATA-33 interface on my machine
apparently would not permit a drive above 128GB or so to be
"recognized" to its full capacity, unless partitioned to lower sized
Mac Pro Graphics:  ATI or Nvidia or what?17 Jun 2008 23:17 GMT3
I'm very curious what the Mac Pro owners think of their GPUs---
especially those of you who also use your Mac Pros for some gaming.
I've read some nice things about the Nvidia 8800 GT, which is an
alternative Mac Pro configuration.  But I've also heard some not-so-nice
put system drive from g3 into g417 Jun 2008 04:18 GMT1
I have an old G3 that I've used for some legacy graphic arts stuff and
testing and someone offered me a Powermac G4 box missing the HDD and
CDROM.
Can I simply put my old OSX 10.4 HDD and CD/DVD drive  into the new

It's time for me to bite the bullet and bump up my rig.

Quadra 650: won't start10 Jun 2008 23:23 GMT3
Hello, All
I have this Quadra 650 that recently gave up on me.
While I was working in OS7 the machine simply "powered off" as if I
had pulled the power chord.
Intel Mini Owners - Performance08 Jun 2008 18:46 GMT5
HARD DRIVE:  Just upgraded my 7200rpm drive (that was a significant
performance increase from the stock 5400rpm notebook sized one) to a
Western Digital 150gb Raptor 10000rpm model that is directly connected
(no firewire or USB).  I'm only using 14gb of it and have a huge amount
