MBP display on FP iMac?22 Sep 2007 04:50 GMT1
I don't see how, but wanted to check with y'all.  I got a MBP back in
March and want to use my 5-year-old 17" FP iMac as the display.  Anyone
know how?
Recommendation for network storage21 Sep 2007 04:01 GMT9
I'd like to get recommendations for a mass storage device that I can attach
to my home network and use for as a file share and back up device.
The characteristics that I seek are:
   Ethernet, 100 Mbps minimum
Max Pismo ATA address space20 Sep 2007 22:41 GMT2
How much address space does the Pismo's ATA controller address?
I see lots of discussion on address limits in G3/G4 towers, cubes,
etc... but far less about PB's.
Will anything less than ~120GB be OK, or is there a hidden gotcha
iMac display resolutions20 Sep 2007 20:11 GMT5
For some reason, the choices of dispay resolutions has become quite
limited on my 17" intel iMac.  Has anyone ever experienced this before?
Mac Mini: cleaning dust bunnies19 Sep 2007 20:08 GMT4
OK, I've had my Mac Mini for 2-3 years now, and over time the fan
started running more than usual, so I sez to myself, "Must be getting
dusty." I used a computer vacuum tool to clean the outside air ducts on
the back and the bottom (and boy the ducts on the bottom were really
Not an "ordinary" Firewire/1394 problem with G4 mounting peripherals18 Sep 2007 21:04 GMT4
I know that Firewire can be flaky, but haven't come across this
problem before or in any search on the Web or groups. I'm hoping
someone can get me pointed in the right direction.
I have a G4 tower running 10.4.10. No problems for years. I have not
About Apples DVI output on a MacBook Pro.14 Sep 2007 01:51 GMT4
The DVI connector on a MacBook Pro is a Dual Analog / Digital output.
Why is it dual?  Can it drive two displays?
I'm not talking about the F7 Mirroring function...
I'm talking about the fact that there connector looks like its capable
ATA-SATA conversion12 Sep 2007 01:30 GMT1
If I've got a Firewire bridge board with SATA connectors; in case I
want to connect an ATA (IDE) drive to that board, do I need a SATA to
ATA converter, or ATA to SATA converter?
I assume these boards only go one way.

The DVI Output on the MacBook Pro11 Sep 2007 07:18 GMT1
The DVI connector for external displays looks like a DUAL Link
Digital / Analog connector.
Why DUAL?  If there are two separate output channels are they
different or the same or is one of them not connected.
Firewire to (S)ATA bridge board10 Sep 2007 21:01 GMT3
I want to make my own external hard drive enclosure which will house
two hard drives and connect to my Powerbook via Firewire 800. I need a
"Firewire bridge board" though I'm not entirely sure which one to get.
1) Is the "JBOD" mode the way to go if I don't want to configure my
MacBook Pro has a stuck DVD09 Sep 2007 23:12 GMT44
Any one know the secret for getting a disc out? I've tried a paper clip and
can't feel anything like I'm used to in other slot loading machines.
And, yes, I've tried holding the Trackpad button.
It shows in Finder and Disk Utility and shows that it ejects. But it doesn't
iMac G3 400 mhz chimes then hangs08 Sep 2007 17:17 GMT10
I picked up a used iMac cheap, trying to get it working. First problem
was solved when I found the memory had been removed. I installed 128
megs and I could hear it booting, but the screen was black, so I
connected an external monitor and that worked. I upgraded the firmware
Do iPods require Cover Flow to browse music?05 Sep 2007 22:16 GMT1
On those iPods that have Cover Flow (like the iPhone, and the new ones
announced today), do you *have* to use Cover Flow whenever you want to
browse music?
I hope not. I can't stand Cover Flow. It's ugly, gaudy and distracting
Problems mounting and burning CD's and DVD's05 Sep 2007 21:49 GMT1
I have an old G3 iMac with a slot load cd burner and a newer G4
lampshade with a tray loading dvd burner. Both have problems mounting
cd and/or dvd discs. I can hear the drives hunting for 10-20 seconds
before it spits them out or occasionally mounts them succesfuly. Burns
