Now,  Mac users might not know what TCO means, but when you use Linux,

I need both a new mac and a new monitor and so I am considering buying the new

Bootable External HD for MacBook Pro21 Aug 2007 04:34 GMT6
I'm trying to create an external firewire bootable HD for my daughters
MacBook Pro. I initialized the drive for intel processor (GUID partition
table). I followed Silverkeeper's instructions for making a bootable HD
like I did for PowerPC Macs. But when I hold down the option key ...
Maximum memory in Mac Mini?21 Aug 2007 01:26 GMT4
I know the Apple specifications say "1 GB", but that kind of statement has
always been determined by the memory chips available when the computer model
was introduced.
Ie, the "Pismo" G3 PowerBook specification stated (at the time of
AirPort Express DHCP behavior20 Aug 2007 02:20 GMT2
Is there any way to make the DHCP server remember its past
assignments? I have an enormous network of 2 laptops. Depending on the
order in which they startup, they are alternately assigned 10.0.1.2
and 10.0.1.3. I'd rather not set static addresses on the laptops

2GB of RAM.

I have a late 2004 dual 2ghz Powermac running 10.4.10 with the stock 8x

RECOMMENDATION REQUEST: extending secure wireless network18 Aug 2007 21:35 GMT1
Moved into a new place recently, and my wireless network doesn't get to
where I'd like the public internet/print station to be. I'm wondering if
anyone has a recommendation of how I might extend the range in a
reliable, cost-effective, secure way. Running a wire wouldn't be very
Report: 20-inch iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo18 Aug 2007 16:17 GMT2
You don't realize how bad your glasses are until you get new glasses.
I think the same applies to computers.  I have one of the new iMac
computers and it is awesome!  Some people are quick to report problems
or shortcomings.  I am very pleased with the new 20-inch 'black apple
Recommended hardware?18 Aug 2007 04:53 GMT13
I'm a long time Linux user, but am seriously thinking of getting a Mac.
Although I'm very satisfied with Linux, I would look forward to better
hardware support and an overall more stable (desktop) environment. My
current system is 4 years old, I feel like it's the time to replace. ...
Built in Raid w/MacOS X17 Aug 2007 23:39 GMT2
Let me try here, as nobody on c.s.m.s had anything to say..
Anyone have any experiences with the SW raid available within disk

get a couple of drives if the built in raid1 is sufficient. Any

G4 Cloning drive to expand capacity16 Aug 2007 17:01 GMT4
Hi Guys, be gentle with me - I know nothing about Macs.
I bought a second-hand G4 and it has a 20GB hard drive and it runs nicely
