Bad sectors, keeping them out of file system11 Sep 2006 19:52 GMT12
I have a disk drive (2004 PowerBook G4) with a number of bad sectors (but
the number doesn't seem to be increasing now, and I'm ready to cope when
the thing really turns bad).
Recently I had a whole lot of errors in the filesystem as well (maybe due
Securely erasing CDRW/DVDRW discs with Disk Utility?11 Sep 2006 17:43 GMT2
If there is nothing on the CDRW or DVDRW, Disk Utility doesn't seem to
see it.  If I erase with Toast (not quick erase of course) is the data
really gone or can it be recovered?
Dead nano (after 20 minutes of use)11 Sep 2006 15:13 GMT6
I bought a Nano at the same time I bought my MacBook a few months
ago.  My first Mac, and my first Nano.
From my experience, I rack my brains trying to fathom how it is
*possible* that Apple has a reputation for the quality of its
Mac Pro and SCSI Peripherals10 Sep 2006 14:17 GMT8
I just bought a new Mac Pro.  I'd like to connect my old HP Laserjet
4MP, which still works beautifully, as well as my old Epson Perfection
636 Scanner.  I've heard my current PCI SCSI card won't work in the Mac
Pro.  Unless someone has a better suggestion, I'm guessing the best way
Question: Anyone know how to fix a Lacie Big Disk USB 2/Firewire 800/400?10 Sep 2006 03:22 GMT1
Anyone know how to fix a Lacie Big Disk USB 2/Firewire 800/400
enclosure? Its the circuit board not the power supply. The drive spins
up but does not mount. The same drive works fine in another enclosure.
Peace
Need help with iPod accessories for 3rd generation 15g09 Sep 2006 23:28 GMT3
I bought a 15g 3rd generation iPod at a garage sale yesterday. There are a
couple of things I need for it.
It came with a firewire connector. I have a PC with USB only. Can I replace
the firewire cable with a USB one, or should I get a firewire/USB adapter
Disk Label and Photographic Print scratching and smearing09 Sep 2006 22:30 GMT29
So I needed some enlargements right away of 35 mm film pictures, all on
negatives, some on photo CDs, some not.  I have two printers supposed
to be superior for photography, an Epson Stylus Photo RX500 and a Canon
Pixma ip 5200 I just bought (after extensive questioning here)
Drive size limit on Blue and White09 Sep 2006 20:55 GMT3
I have read something about a 137 Gig limit (or something similar) for
older Macs, including my B&W.
Assuming that to be true, is it an absolute limit on the total drive, or
can it be "finessed" by partitioning -- say, a 200 Gig drive into two,
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 and FirmTek incompatibility problem07 Sep 2006 17:43 GMT3
Has anyone else had problems with this combination?  I just purchased
the kit from FirmTek with the SeriTek/2EN2 dual-bay enclosure and the
SeriTek/1eSE2 card.  Installed a pair of brand new Seagate Barracuda
7200.10 drives and proceeded to power up the unit.  The drives did not
OWC Neptune Firewire 400 160gb, not working right on beige G3 300mhz06 Sep 2006 03:05 GMT3
I am using a firewire PCI card. I also use an OWC Mercury elite 120gb

to freeze whenever I copy a somewhat large file to it. I'm using OS

Hyperlinks and various browsers05 Sep 2006 01:47 GMT32
I have a Mac Mini with 512Mb RAM running MacOSX 10.4.7, which I purchased
specifically for cross-platform testing of websites. I'm experiencing some
unusual behaviour on certain browsers only whereby hyperlinks don't seem to
be "recognised" i.e. when the mouse is hovered over a ...
Non-responsive MS Wireless Mouse04 Sep 2006 12:14 GMT5
I use the Microsoft IntellMouse Explorer 2.0 Wireless mouse with my G4
with OSX 10.4.7 and it is really getting sluggish.  I changed the
batteries but it really seems non-responsive compared to the wired Apple
no button mouse.

I recently purchased two 30-inch Apple Cinema displays from Apple to
incorporate into my Final Cut Pro editing system.  One monitor can take
the display up to 2560 x 1600 while the other one can only go to 1280 x
