I've heard mention about a device which was used with early Mac powerbooks which had no video out. This was a SCSI to video adapter. Did this device ever actually exist if so any idea what it

| PowerMac 6xxx and G3 upgrades | 29 May 2006 11:19 GMT | 7 |
I currently have a Performa 6200, and it's quite an euphemism to say that this piece of crap is slow, so I'm considering upgrading it with a 6360/6400/6500 logic board, and then upgrade it to a G3. The question is, does it matter whether it take a 6360 board or a 6500/300 if I

| Need to know polarity of RAYOVAC 4.5V battery (840,841) | 29 May 2006 08:18 GMT | 4 |
I was testing my 4.5V RayOVac battery and I pulled the keyed 4-pin connector off the wires to test it and forgot to check which way the connector is keyed before I did. Darn it! Now I don't know which way to put the wires back into the connector

| Power supply "bricks" - equivalence? | 29 May 2006 04:13 GMT | 5 |
I was recently sold a Kensington power supply (33069) by a Mac shop in France with the assurance that it was safe and would work with my PowerBook. (I was desperate and wanted to believe them!) I then checked with the Kensington web site and found that my laptop (G4

| Benchmarking a G5 | 27 May 2006 19:50 GMT | 6 |
Hi. I've got an iMac G5, and I'm unsure whether or not it's performing up to scratch. It often runs so slowly that I suspect hardware problems. Rather than lug it all the way to the apple store to get them to look at it, I was hoping I could test the hardware out myself. I've run ...

| Sudden boot problems, iBook G4 | 25 May 2006 20:11 GMT | 9 |
Suddenly, my iBook G4 1.33 GHz (just out of warranty...) will not boot. It stops at the grey apple before the little carousel appears, or even a tad before, mostly not allowing me as far as a single-user boot so I can see what happens.

| Salvaged Powerbook 9600 cd-rom in an imac | 25 May 2006 17:36 GMT | 2 |
I have one of the Original iMac (Rev. A) whose cd-rom is kind of hit or miss. Where I work I saw an old Powerbook 9600 destined for the trash. I was thinking of salvaging the cd-rom from there to use in the imac but was wondering if it would be compatible before I start tearing the

| power outages | 25 May 2006 12:41 GMT | 4 |
Our power company has this nasty little habit of momentary power outages, usually in the early morning around 7-8 a.m. As a result, I usually have to re-boot my Mac mini and my external firewire drive. (I boot from the external firewire for my OS to run the system, as it is a

| Surge Protectors | 24 May 2006 05:13 GMT | 9 |
I was recently told by an "expert" that surge protectors deteriorate over time and the protection is lost. Is this true? At what interval should one get a new protector? Is it any help to connect two in series (ie, more protection, longer life)?
