Apparently the currently shipping models - the ones with the built-in iSight - can burn dual layer DVDs, since Apple's iMac page says so. But what about earlier iMac G5's? I have the first version that was made. Does this model support dual layer DVDs?

I've recently had some strange behavior from my external firewire hard drive. Some of the same symptoms occurred about a month ago. If it is starting to fail I'd like to erase it securely and plan for a new one. I would appreciate any advice given the following symptoms.
