Mac G4 will not disable FireWire boot30 Nov 2005 19:09 GMT2
My computer was working fine, and I was trying to back up my work on a
external FireWire hardrive.  It kept denying my files when I tried to

Flash video archive isn't working?30 Nov 2005 05:44 GMT3
One of those TV station "news" archives. But not RealPlayer content. Looks to
be Flash.
Shouldn't this work for Macs? All the Flash ads that load on all the web
pages I visit work (unfortunately). Why shouldn't this?

I hava a new NEC ND-4550A in an external Case connected by USB. I can

whenever I try to burn a DVD, the program starts burning, writes out
"Burning Track 1" or something the like - and then spins forever.

NB Temp Sensor27 Nov 2005 17:06 GMT1
Can anybody tell me what the "NB Temp" sensor is, as reported for the
iMac G5 (iSight)  by temperature-monitoring utilities like Temperature

the usual Apple support sites nor the documentation for the monitoring

Apple 17" Studio Display = boat anchor?27 Nov 2005 02:24 GMT3
Someone gave me an Apple 17" Studio Display Monitor, one of those old
blue & white ones with the ADB connectors. It worked fine for about the
first 20 minutes that I had it hooked up. Then I got these things,
depending on how hard I banged on it:

Making an iBook G3 Net Ready26 Nov 2005 21:16 GMT5
I have just inherited an iBook G3 - 900Mhz Power PC running OS X [v. 10.2.8]

I have a Belkin ADSL router at home, and I would like to make the iBook 'net
ready' so that I can use it to access the web wirelessly.
Why can't I boot external OS X?26 Nov 2005 01:46 GMT18
I use LaCie SilverKeeper to back up my internal h.d. to an external FireWire
drive. I exclude nothing in the backup; system, applications, data is all
copied to the external h.d.
When I open System Preferences and choose Startup Disk, I get 3 icons: the OS
TechTool won't let me wipe volume?25 Nov 2005 22:26 GMT2
TTP won't let me Wipe a volume. When I choose the volume in
the Open dialog box, TT then sez: "Permission denied. You
do not have write access to that item." The Get Info box
tells me that I (this user) have "read and write" access.

Re: G4 fan dying UPDATE24 Nov 2005 19:07 GMT1
My G4's case fan was fine. The power supply fan was the noisemaker. My
computer repair person replaced it and all is well. He also cleaned the
whole inside of the G4 with an industrial compressor (I think that's
what he called it--it's in a separate building so dust doesn't get
