Canon ip8500 Printer -- Easy-PhotoPrint -- Hangs on Launch18 Jul 2005 05:33 GMT1
I have a Canon ip8500 Printer connected to a G4 PowerBook. For normal
printing everything works. When I try to use the printer via Canon's
Easy-PhotoPrint most of the time Easy-PhotoPrint hangs on launch, but
occasionally it will launch and then work normally. I am running under ...
Digital audio recorder for Mac17 Jul 2005 23:23 GMT12
Do they exist?  Most I have seen on the market will only talk to PC's.
Or perhaps I may just need to buy myself a tape machine with a audio in
jack.  This does of coarse beat the cost of purchasing TV sermons.
Digital seems to be better quality though.
Apple 7200 operating system question17 Jul 2005 21:22 GMT3
I'm turning this computer over to charity, but I want to ensure that
the hard drive is wiped clean before I give it up.  What steps should I
take to accomplish this?  I'm not quite sure what version of OS is
running on this system; if I need to know this before proceeding,

OS X 10.2.8 won't start17 Jul 2005 19:52 GMT2
I get a grey screen where the apple logo usually comes up on startup - then
nothing.  I've tried all the startup sequences (Command x/t/v/etc, Options
blah/blah) to no avail.  Any suggestions?  (My OS files are on an internal
hard drive so are not accessible.)
DVD-playing hardware question17 Jul 2005 01:05 GMT1
My understanding is that DVD data from the built-in DVD drive is not
processed by the computer's microprocessor, but has it's own dedicated video
circuitry that shuttles the data directly from the drive to video hardware
and onto the display.
iPod showing wall charger picture14 Jul 2005 06:24 GMT1
I connected my iPod photo 60 Gb to mac using USB cable. It is always
showing wall charger sign. Nothing else happens.
I do not have wall charger yet since apple sent me wrong cable
(firewire/USB mismatch between charger and connector cable)
Buffalo TeraStations dumped at Frys14 Jul 2005 05:31 GMT4
Fry's is loaded with stacks of Buffalo TeraStation NAS systems for low
prices.  There's a reason - it's defective product dumping.  The Apple
File and SMB protocols are badly out of date and incomplete.  The box
claims NFS but tech support admitted that the feature never made it ...
Large monitor13 Jul 2005 23:04 GMT2
Hi guys. I'm about to buy a new mac to use for desktop publishing and
digital video. I want a BIG screen - the biggest I can afford. Screen
real estate is everything to me.
In a perfect world, I'd get Apple's 30 inche monitor, but that won't
Start G4 without the keyboard?13 Jul 2005 04:29 GMT5
I have recently gotten my first Mac, a dual 450 G4. It will only
startup from either the button on the keyboard, or from the Apple
display button. I now have it hooked up to a non-Apple display, and
would like to use an Apple Pro keyboard. It came with one of the really
G4 vs G512 Jul 2005 12:53 GMT3
http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn2087.html
Now that there is a chance that Apple will be selling G5s at similar
clock speeds to the G4 the issue of how these two chips compare to each
other might become important. The best info I have found on this issue
Aftermarket cases for macs?12 Jul 2005 12:44 GMT3
I find the G4 case poor for cooling and useless for expandibility.  I have
the single optical drive with zip thing underneath.  By drilling a bunch of
holes in the top of the optical housing I was able to mount a hard drive
there (actually a mobile rack) so it doesn't heat up much.  ...

Flashing ("diverting") the Promise ATA-100 PCI card11 Jul 2005 19:19 GMT2
At my local Univeristy Surplus Sale yesterday, I came across a whol
box of Promise ATA cards.  I walked home with an ATA-66 model (
already know how to convert those) and also one of the ATA-100 model
to try.
