iMac energy efficiency27 Jul 2005 10:10 GMT7
I recently bought a 20" 2 GHz G5 iMac and compared its power
consumption (using a Brand power meter) to my previous 17" 800 MHz G4
iMac. For those interested, the results are below, but bottom line I am
very pleased with Apple's obvioius attention to making these machines

My brother has a G4 (gigabit ethernet) which has worked fine since

the moving van, taking great care not to damage anything, but ....

NoiseControl NoVibes - possible in a G525 Jul 2005 12:05 GMT4
I've just upgraded to a G5 and, while I really appreciate the (general)
lack of fan noise, I'm a little disappointed by the busy clacking of the
drives. I presume the drives in my old G4 were equally noisy, but the
sound of the fans masked them.

question about secure erasing a hard drive24 Jul 2005 00:05 GMT4
OK, so let's say I have a HD with a boat load of proprietary financial
data on an older machine.  I want to erase the data securely, so I use
an app like Burn to overwrite each sector 10 passes with random data.
From there, I reformat the drive low level, reformat it at OS level ...

How can I format the harddrive to install OS X? 23 Jul 2005 05:39 GMT2

doesn't recognize any partition to install OS. I thought the installation
process would offer me to create a partition ...

When you increase the sound volume a high-pitched piercing sound is

the mike couples to the speakers. The sound is also produced when you

WiebeTech has announced a little box that appears to offer the same
