Error -20 while formatting a disk?04 Feb 2005 22:39 GMT1
The hard drive on my 768MHz G4 crashed and burned, so I bought a Western
Digital Caviar SE with 80GB (WD800JB). I tried to install OSX 10.3 on it,
Using Disk Utility from the installation CDs, I try to "Format Mac OS
extended (journaled)". After a bunch of hours, I get
Mac-Mini to TV & CRT04 Feb 2005 19:54 GMT7
I am not sure if this is mainly a hardware question or if it is an issue
of support in OS X but I'll try here first.
I plan to buy a Mac-mini, it has one dvi output but I want to use it as
a mediacenter as well as a desktop machine so my question is if there
Mac mini vs. DP 800 Powermac?04 Feb 2005 12:53 GMT21
I have a three-year-old DP G4 800MHz Powermac whose internal slots are
not in use. I'm trying to determine if a new 1.42GHz Mac mini would be
equivalent in speed to my machine. If it would it would be worth it for
me to sell the Powermac and gain (a) a slightly faster system bus, ...
Override monitor's plug-and-play settings?03 Feb 2005 19:35 GMT3
I have an LCD monitor that seems to have the wrong plug-and-play
information programmed into it.  It's a Sharp LLT1610W which can
display up to 1280x1024, however the mac sees it as a Sharp LLT1512W,
which can only do 1024x768.  So it displays only a 1024x768 rectangle
iBook 12" vs. Powerbook 12": How rugged are they?03 Feb 2005 18:43 GMT2
I started using an iBook in '02. That one died due to the well known
mainboard problem. I got a new one that has been repaired twice
because of the mainboard flaw and now there seems to be another
problem: My CD drive died, sometimes the machine just goes off if
what size internal hard drive?03 Feb 2005 10:03 GMT12
What size internal hard drive can I put in my G4 400 AGP mac that the
computer would recognize?
CoreImage video memory usage -- HELP!03 Feb 2005 05:22 GMT1
Does coer image uses more video memory in general.

MacVCD X won't play .avi file03 Feb 2005 04:15 GMT4
On a friend's Mac, can't get avi to play on MacVCD. In the Get Info box for
the avi file, the Ownership & Permissions setting says: "You can only read".
When I double-click the avi's icon (it's a QuickTime movie icon), QuickTime
opens (and doesn't play it very well).
Cigaretter lighter plug for iBook?02 Feb 2005 20:08 GMT12
I'm looking for a way to power an iBook from a 12VDC cigarette
lighter. Dr. Bott has an inverter that is $110 (as I recall) that inverts
the 12VDC to 110VAC, and you plug your iBook's brick into that, and you
then convert back to DC. Sheesh.
mount a DVD disc02 Feb 2005 18:29 GMT2
I'm in serious trouble -- I need to install an app on my iBook but I don't
have a DVD drive. Is there any way I can share the disc from a PC that does
have a DVD drive, or copy the files and make a mountable image, or some
other way to install this program?
OWC Mercury Elite - happy customers02 Feb 2005 03:58 GMT1
I've got my eye on the OWC Mercury Elite link of drives.   Price
(250GB/$230) is comparable to (say) a LaCie d2 & people have said it's a
bit quieter.
Curious if there are happy owners out there who've had good luck with
HD Speeds on Mini Mac compared to Firwire IDE drives02 Feb 2005 02:01 GMT14
I've heard several folks talking about the 4200rpm HD in the Mini Mac
being a kinda bottleneck when running faster processes, like video
editing, image editing, etc.  If I had a Firewire IDE drive bay and
plugged a 7200rpm drive in, would this be any faster then the internal
How to format external USB drive?01 Feb 2005 23:51 GMT9
Use a utility included with OS X? 3rd party util? The drive (a thumb RAM
drive) has no included utilities.
Thanks,
Performa and cable modem?01 Feb 2005 21:22 GMT5
Can anyone tell me if an old Performa 6360 can be used with a cable
modem? I know they had built in modems, just not sure if it can be
removed and an ethernet card installed...?
If someone wouldn't mind dropping me a line with some info I would sure
