HD upgrade, iMac G4 70003 Jan 2005 22:16 GMT7
I notice our lampshade iMac has a very, very slow drive. It is a 5400
rpm Maxtor with a 2MB cache, ATA-100. We love the iMac, it does what we
need, but the drive is both small and miserably slow loading even text
files.
DVD using external drive?03 Jan 2005 21:15 GMT1
I believe that an iMac/iDVD can't recognise an external DVD writer, but
with PatchBurn it can.
I want to use a DVD writer with my G4 iMac and also with a G4 iBook, and
this, apart from my terror of attempting a replacement of the iMac's

Upgrading G4 processor from a newer G403 Jan 2005 14:40 GMT1
I have a aAGP G4 350mhz. Can I take a processor from a newer G4 and
stick it in mine? If so, what processor can I go up to. I know there
are upgrade cards but a friend is offering to give me a 450 chip and I
was wondering if I could go higher than this. Is the procedure to take
Powerbook 180c SCSI Hard Drive to USB adapter?03 Jan 2005 01:11 GMT1
In my continuing quest to back up all of my old computers, I would like to
be able to take my old Powerbook 180c's hard disk (a 160 meg internal
notebook scsi drive) and interface it with either a PC or Mac via USB to
extract a drive image (or at the very least extract the files ...
Dumb question about CD labels02 Jan 2005 21:29 GMT2
I just bought some blank CDs at a very good price. However, I just
discovered the reason they were at such a good price. They don't have
any labels on them, nor were any included. Can I just stick any kind of
label on the CDs, like a standard 3x5 mailing label or an old 5.25" ...
Firewire Raid Problems02 Jan 2005 19:09 GMT1
I've recently purchased an external Firewire RAID box. I got it from
firewiredirect.com, and they sell it as the "NitroAV Vanguard V", but
it's also available from other companies. Raidsonic.de calls it Stardom
SR6500, but epowermac.com.au sells it under its original name: SOHORAID

AlchemyTV DVR card02 Jan 2005 13:55 GMT3
I just installed a new AlchemyTV DVR card in my Dual Processor 2.5Ghtz
G5. The hardware installation was a snap, but configuring the software
seems to require an advanced degree in computer science.
First off, I had hoped to be able to use the DVR software that came with
Problems With Radeon 9000 Pro in Quicksilver01 Jan 2005 22:45 GMT1
When I drag windows around there are trails left by the window edges.
It looks like the OS-X window shadowing effect is messed up.  I've done
the latest flash upgrade, and ATI's website says I don't need drivers
for Panther.  Anybody have an idea what's wrong?  Thanks.
iTunes on XP no longer recognizes device01 Jan 2005 18:36 GMT1
I was using my iPod mini on my XP Pro desktop system and then decided
to install the software and connect the device to my laptop. On the
laptop system (XP Pro also), I told the software installation to
reconfigure the device (which I didn't want to do since it removed all
USB201 Jan 2005 03:17 GMT2
If I put a USB2 card in a dual 1GHz Mac (Mirrored Drive
Doors), will the system (10.3.7) support it?
