Noisy CD drive on G5?18 Aug 2004 15:21 GMT3
This machine was so quiert i was startled at the noise level of the CD drive.
It sounds like the whoosing sound a fan makes moving air. Is this normal? I'm
coming from I think a 4X in my old 9500!
Un-Upgradeable iPod?18 Aug 2004 14:59 GMT1
        Greetings All,
Apple recently release iPod Web Update 080604.  This update claimed to
be for all iPods, Minins, those with click wheels, and the new third
generation.
FireWire printer problem17 Aug 2004 22:20 GMT1
Louise just bought a Canon i9900 printer with USB and FireWire
connections. With the cable connected directly from the printer to the
computer (Blue and White G3 running 10.2.8), it'll print the test pages and
whatever from the driver, but not anything from an application, not text
Matched pair memory sticks17 Aug 2004 07:20 GMT9
I was looking at G5 memory on macsales.com and found this

SCSI & USB16 Aug 2004 21:27 GMT1
It's easy to find adapters allowing the connection of SCSI devices to a
USB port. What about the opposite? Who makes the converter that will let
me connect USB to the SCSI port on my golden oldie? I know there are pci
cards that provide USB but that's not what I want.
Power Mac 8600 has permanantly gone to sleep16 Aug 2004 16:32 GMT2
I have a Power Mac 8600 with OS 9.1 and 256 mb of Ram and a 604e 300 Mhz
processor.  For some reason when I went to shut it down the mouse cursor
turned into a watch dial with the hands going around and around.  The
computer would not shut down.  It stayed this way for over an hour ...
Verschluggener Power Bricks16 Aug 2004 15:28 GMT5
There are times when I think that those who flunk out of electrical
engineering colleges are assigned to design power bricks. I'm sure many
others have had the problems of a brick covering two or three sockets on a
power strip, of a brick being polarized the opposite of what you ...
My fan keeps spinning. How to find out why? What CPU temperatue    is too high?16 Aug 2004 02:37 GMT5
Hi all. I'm running the latest update of Panther on a 17" G4 laptop. I've
noticed in the last few months that the fan is on an aweful lot.  I don't
think it was this way before. Is there any way I can find out why? I have
one of those apps which measures CPU temperature and it says ...
Need keyboard recommendation15 Aug 2004 12:06 GMT5
I'm looking for a good extended keyboard with not too many bells and
whistles (volume buttons would be all I really wanted) that is Mac
compatible.  I'm getting sick of spraining my right hand with this
Gyration wireless mouse(even with adjustments in USB Overdrive), so it
Can a Bad USB Hub Produce Spurious Mouse Activity?14 Aug 2004 23:40 GMT9
I recently picked up a small IOGear-brand USB hub for my 17" PowerBook,
plus an external numeric keypad (thereby requiring the hub).  I've been
noticing some very strange, sporadic things going on since then.  In my
limited experimentation so far, I haven't been able to reproduce ...
Transferring files...again14 Aug 2004 21:28 GMT2
OK, let me see if I understand this. I first start on my 9500 and turn on file
sharing. Then I shut the 9500 down and disconnect the monitor, and set up my G5
with the monitor? I put the 9500 back on, connected to the G5 with the
crossover cable, and access the 9500 from the G5 ...

Hi, I am trying to figure out if there is a way of hooking up speakers
to my computer.
The speakers are the type that come with radios with the two wires in
back of each speaker. This there any way of doing this with out useing
133MHz RAM appears as 100MHz on G4-733MHz computer14 Aug 2004 17:50 GMT7
Please be gentle with me as I'm very new at this and am trying to help
a friend.
He has a G4-733MHz with 512MB of ram (it's all 133MHz memory).
We just tried to add 2 more 512MB dimms to increase the total ram to
ITunes support problem14 Aug 2004 17:34 GMT1
Due to a hardware problem, I kept getting authorization errors on my
iTunes.  Finally the whole system died.  I recently get it fixed, and
have everything up to speed, except that iTunes will not authorize
because Apple thinks I have the limit of five computers authorized, even
Poor built in sound on G514 Aug 2004 01:10 GMT1
I just set up my G5 and the built in sound quality is awful. Very static-y,
like a really cheap radio. I know I need external speakers for good sound, but
can the sound really be that bad? The sound on my old 9500 was even better!
