| Need a printer recommendation | 31 Aug 2004 19:10 GMT | 7 |
My old Stylewriter II has finally kicked the bucket, so I need some suggestions for a good new printer. Color would be cool, but I also need good basic black and white repro. I'd hate to have to replace an expensive color cartridge that still has plenty of ink, just because the ...

| Good RAM Testing Utility? | 31 Aug 2004 12:22 GMT | 11 |
Is there any utility capable of doing a thorough testing of RAM on modern Mac models that can't run OS X? FWB's "Hard Disk Toolkit" will not run on OS X, so I have no way of checking RAM thoroughly on G5 model hardware.

Anyone here with an ATI Radeon Mac Edition PCI card (_not_ the Radeon 7000 Mac Edition!)? I have the PC version of this card and want to flash it with the Mac ROM. Unfortunately, all Mac ROM files available in the net are for the Radeon 7000 but not the original Radeon. And the ...

My friends G3 won't startup. Battery is fully charged. The fan spins (can hear it) but there is no startup chime and the screen stays black. Have tried the reset (Ctrl-fn-Shift-Power). Nothing works except the fan.

Hi. I'm new to Macs. I've got a little bit of "other" computer experience (but not much!). I've just been given a Performa 575 but not any of the manuals or discs that originally came with it. I'm the curious sort, so I'd just

| Reusing Old Hard Drive | 28 Aug 2004 20:51 GMT | 4 |
I had a couple of old macs (IIci, 9500/120, etc) so threw all the memory (remember when memory came in 2 Meg chunks!!! - I know, I know, you all had Lisas!!) and I took the best bits from each of them and made myself an iTunes player for the basement!

Recently I picked up an old powerbook duo 230 (and some accessories) off of a scrapheap. Since it turned out to boot, I decided to learn a bit more as most of my previous experience is with x86 mswin & *nix. One of the parts I have is the external floppy unit, but I was under the ...

| RAM limits in a Lombard? | 27 Aug 2004 18:15 GMT | 8 |
I am preparing a Lombard 400MHz for upgrade to OSX, currently running 9.2.2. I am trying to increase RAM up to 512K by using two 256K SIMMs. The evidence so far suggests that this is not possible. Putting both the SIMMs in causes random freezes, hangs, and other failures, either

| Major Firewire Problems - Quicksilver G4 | 26 Aug 2004 18:16 GMT | 6 |
Firewire died on my Quicksilver G4 and I've been unable to restore it. After trying everything, I gave up on the onboard ports and bought a Sonnet Tango 2.0 PCI card. Unbelievably, I can't see my firewire devices plugged in through the PCI card either.

| Raid-0 hard drives start-uo volume | 25 Aug 2004 21:52 GMT | 8 |
I was wondering if it¹s possible to do a Raid-0 on two drives and be able to make that your start-up drive for Mac OS X. I have read you couldn't or weren't supposed to Raid-0 drives for your start-up volume in the past with early versions of Mac OS X. I currently
