Computer Dying Question ...                  31 Jul 2004 09:31 GMT4
Do computers just stop working when they go, or do they have a  lingering
death? I have an over 10 year old MAC 9500 that's acting              more and
more flaky with too many crashes and problems. Just        got a new G5 but was
wondering about that. Do they age, or just go  all ...
20GB iPod Says it only has 18.5GB31 Jul 2004 00:56 GMT4
I just bought the new click-wheel iPod.  I've been having the usual
start-up problems of learning how to use it, etc.  Anyway, one thing
that struck me is that even when I deleted all the songs
(accidentally, btw!!!), it shows that there are only 18.5GB available.
If I have to throw this G4 away, can I put the HDD In a 266 G3?30 Jul 2004 20:48 GMT7
Does anyone know whether I can put a G4 installation of OS X (put in on a
350 Yosemite board which seems to come from a G3) into a 266 FLAT beige G3
which DOES work?  The G4 is nothing  more than a doorstop now and, -
although attractive, - can't be either fixed or worth fixing.  I ...
Airport Extreme to ethernet bridging?30 Jul 2004 20:39 GMT3
Hi, all.
I'm having a bit of a problem with an Airport Extreme setup. It's
probably pretty basic, but so far the solution has managed to evade me.
It has to do with wireless-to-ethernet bridging.

Since a few days my dual 1ghz g4 (digital audio) operates really slow.
Activity monitor shows a process named 'kernel_task" is taking up 99-100
percent of cpu time. So 1 cpu is taken up by this process all the time.
My machine feels like an old 233 imac and I can't put my finger on ...

I have an older G3 iMac running OS 10.3.4 and9.2.2 Classic.

I loaded the OS X and OS 9 HP drivers and the printer works great with the
native OS X applications.

Large FW hard drive not fully recognised29 Jul 2004 04:36 GMT2
Hey ho.
I have a (moderately old) NewMotion FireWire enclosure (strictly 1394;
no USB2, at least not any that's accessible), into which I've put a 200
GB Seagate drive. When I connect it to my PowerBook (OS X 10.3.4), the
Firewire front problem on G5 ?29 Jul 2004 02:26 GMT3

G4 Yikes: boot h/w check disc gives System failure PU=028 Jul 2004 21:23 GMT6
I have just been given this G4 described as a 1.25 gig (although it has the
model number M5183 and a serial number of a 350 MHz) Seems to be a yikes
machine either with an upgrade or not. I have an OS X install disc from a
600 MHz 12.1 iBook which I am trying to use to diagnose or ...
Installing OS X apps over OS 9 versions28 Jul 2004 17:36 GMT7
Having upgraded an iMac DV to the latest OS 9 and firmware versions,
I'm now ready to install OS X, and then OS X versions of AppleWorks
and Eudora.  But a question has occurred to me:
Will the OS X app versions install into the same directories as
G3 B&W Will Not Start Up28 Jul 2004 16:58 GMT1
I mistakenly disconnected the power to my Blue & White G3 early in its
start up sequence.  It made a noise (clunk) that I had never heard before,
seemingly coming from the area behind the front manual startup button.
Now, the computer will not start up at all.  Nothing at all ...
