Does anyone know if there is a way to exclude the dock from available
desktop space?  I have it to the left because I'm using a 15.4" MBP and
would prefer it if otherr windows couldn'g overlap it.

I'm just having one of my 'great ideas', and looking at possibilities of
changing my MacBook. I have now stopped using it as a laptop, so I'd

Anyone recommend a decent UPnP server for OSX?  Aims are primarily to
stream iTunes library and specific folders of video to an Xbox running

silly money. It is coming toward me a bit faster than I expected - like

Is it correct that you can't start up from the System Disc using a USB
Optical Drive.

according to MacTracker, my Mac Pro should have a pair of SATA
connectors serving the optical drive bay.
a) is this actually true? I can't see them...

I've got a couple of external HDDs.  I think that each might have been
used for backing up my boot disc at some time in the past, 'cos I can
see on each one this list of invisible directories (cd -la from
Terminal):

Can regular osx Leopard (non-server) share a drive to be used as a
networked timemachine store for a second mac?
We're using the powerbook all the time and the current timemachine
firewire drive doesn't get plugged in often enough but I have a G4 mini

I would like to configure Babel so that it uses ukhyphen.tex by default.
I have looked at the documentation for babel (texdoc babel) and I cannot
find any mention of how to set up the default hyphenation patterns.
Can anyone tell me the approved method for changing the default

Got to work this morning, turned on the iMac, decided to check something
out on YouTube... and no video... wooo (not).
Tried both Safari and Firefox. The message from YT is: Hello, you either
have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.

Just tried to download it, but am being compelled to sign up to a
subscription d/l service! Okay it's cheaper than Office, but I ain't
payin'!
Can anyone recommend me a viable alternative...?
