WDScheduleDaemon01 Oct 2008 00:40 GMT4
My Login items currently show something called WDScheduleDaemon
(Kind = 'Unknown') which I can't recall having seen before.
Anyone know what put it there and what it's for?
So, is the iPhone 3G really that much faster than the Edge iteration?30 Sep 2008 16:50 GMT5
I have heard much debate about whether the apparent 3G version is actually
faster. I heard some folks are taking the company from Cupertino to court.
Is there actually an improvement in speed?
The most comprehensive error message, ever.30 Sep 2008 15:16 GMT5
I was trying a GPL editor called Evergreen this evening and was greeted
with the following error message when I started the application.

Look carefully and there's even a reference to Salma Hayek in there!
Last.fm30 Sep 2008 11:56 GMT11
I am being dense and Web 0.9a'ish. What actually -is- Last.fm? I keep
hearing it's a radio service, then a social networking service, then
it's a means for new artists to distribute themslves, then it's an
oh-my-god-the-copyright-cops nightmare, then it's a...
iPhone album art vanished30 Sep 2008 11:29 GMT5
Anyone seen this before?
In coverflow mode all artwork is present and correct, however as of
the other week when an individual track's playing, it just displays
the generic album art musical note symbol.  I've rebooted the phone,
Reading the tea-leaves30 Sep 2008 09:54 GMT16
It's not normal for the *entire* Apple Mac product range to be
available on the Refurb shop, is it? Currently almost every single
current and some historical/oddity lines are present. It's been like
this for about three weeks now.
iPhone mail/O2/gprs/wap29 Sep 2008 23:11 GMT13
Well, decided to dive in & got myself a still-wrapped 1st Gen iPhone off
eBay. Hooray! However...
On my iMac, I have mail set up to collect from four POP accounts (three
Gmail, and one other). I went through the initial sync process and have my
New iPod owners beware...29 Sep 2008 21:39 GMT5
The cheapey iPod speaker docks may not work. I got one off Amazon that
says it was compatible with 'dockable' iPods. However, it doesn't work
with the latest generation for sure, and possibly all iPod Touch. It
works through the supplied auxiliary cable to supply audio only, but
App to manage/migrate phone dictionary?29 Sep 2008 21:11 GMT5
I'm just switching my (Nokia) mobile phone and would rather not lose all the
words I've added to the SMS dictionary over the last few years.
Is there an OSX app which will allow me to EITHER extract the dictionary from
a phone OR manually update it on the new phone?
does anyone here use TrueCrypt on a regular basis?29 Sep 2008 18:24 GMT2
I need to decide between PGP and TrueCrypt. PGP appears to be polished and
stable. I am unable to find any comprehensive reviews of the Mac client. Is
it worth investing time to look into TrueCrypt?
thx
Software Update frequency29 Sep 2008 09:49 GMT16
Since I've owned my PowerBook, March 2005, I've installed 94 updates.
Wonder how many updates I'd have applied to a Windows machine in that
time frame?
.ics files29 Sep 2008 09:47 GMT4
I'm being sent meeting files (.ics) by a client but they don't seem to
be compatible with ICal. I can read the content in Mail if I specify raw
content. I've got the Iconizer plug in running so files like PDFs appear
as icons and as these .ics files are often sent with PDFs as ...
Sony EReader29 Sep 2008 08:52 GMT15
I recall that someone here (Ian?) was a bit of a fan of the Sony
Ereader. I saw one in a Sony shop today and was quite impressed but had
a few queries. The main things that struck me where:
1. It feels really solid with a high quality metal shell which is a nice.
iTunes description field29 Sep 2008 08:38 GMT22
I've just noticed that in iTunes, one of the View Options (View menu) is
`Description'.
So I turned it on, and got to see a blank `Description' field appear in
the iTunes music browser here.
