MAC OS X freeze18 Jun 2008 11:47 GMT10
It's an iBook 1.33HGz, G4, with Version 10.5.3
Been having problems lately with WindowServer or mds maxing out CPU and
everything grinds to a halt. Can't even force quit, have to use the
power button to stop. It often happens when I use Firefox to access

Seems to have come to a grinding halt. The last version being mid 2006
which no longer works - for me anyway.
Has anyone found a replacement ?
My charger has gone green !17 Jun 2008 23:16 GMT3
Just got an new A1021/65w charger for my 12" G4 P'book.  First couple of
days I got the normal orange light at the connector whilst charging and
green when fully charged.
Now the light is green all the time.
For the keyboard geeks17 Jun 2008 22:27 GMT9
I know there's a few of you out there that worship particular keyboard
models. Here's a nice little atricle that talks about some of the
science of 'good' keyboard design:

Hmm, .Mac down!17 Jun 2008 20:17 GMT5
I've just been updating a web gallery, and it come up with an error.
Turns out my login has dropped from my .Mac account. Re-entered the
password, and it's not accepted.
Trying to access the .Mac web site ain't working either. Are they doing
Help - iPhoto, Aperture and Adobe bridge all keep crashing17 Jun 2008 18:03 GMT5
Could anyone suggest a reason why three similar apps - iPhoto, Aperture
and Adobe Bridge - all keep crashing? I'm running 10.5.3 and the
problem seems to happen when using any one of these applications to
sort photographs. This isn't just an occasional problem - it is almost
"Burn this image to that media"17 Jun 2008 14:21 GMT3
Morning all,
One for the AppleScript/Automator clueful:
I burn a lot of ISO images to CD and DVD. At the moment it's a tedious
process of opening the image in Disk Utility to burn it.
Free stuff in iTunes17 Jun 2008 09:54 GMT4
Courtesy of William Gallagher's UK DVD Review podcast (well worth a
listen BTW) comes some iTunes UK freebies:
The pilot episode of Starsky & Hutch;
The pilot of Charlie's Angels is also sort of there, but had some audio
HDD upgrade - partitions17 Jun 2008 09:10 GMT13
Going to get myself a 320GB drive to upgrade my MBP today.
Current 160GB drive's partitioned up as 32gb bootcamp and the rest OS
X.  What I'd like is to end up with 32GB bootcamp and the rest of the
320GB space as OS X.
Any Thunderbird users know how to "wrap" messages properly?17 Jun 2008 00:45 GMT3
Something seems odd with T'bird mail & news messages.  As I type into
the test box everything continues scrolling to the right and the first
part of the message disappears.  Then it wraps and the right hand part
of the message disappears off screen  A quick count looks as if it ...
Flickr vs. SmugMug16 Jun 2008 23:14 GMT8
Not strictly Mac related but there seems to be a few keen photographers
around here. I wondered if any people are using SmugMug rather than
Flickr for photo sharing.
I've just tried the trial and really like the look of the site compared
USB Sata drive on G416 Jun 2008 22:31 GMT14
I was given a 2.5" USB Sumvision SATA drive by a PC friend of mine. On
the box it says it will work with OSX. When I plug it in it appears on
the desktop but I cannot format or copy to it. It's currently in
Windows NT format. I run a G4 quicksilver 10.3.9 (old I know).
Time machine rocks16 Jun 2008 21:53 GMT-
Well, my TM backup from my FW drive on the iMac G5 restored fine on to the
Mini. It looks like I never left. Apart from the smaller screen.
iPhoto and iTunes are all there, even my Logic installation survived.
My iLok registrations came over, and the Antares iLok(ed) AUs all ...
parallels, vmware, etc16 Jun 2008 21:20 GMT12
I've been playing with // for a year or so now and fancy trying vmware
fusion to run my Boot Camp XP partition.
Anyone any experience of how reliable an uninstall of // and install
of vmware to boot the same partitioned OS is?
Unlimited..., iTouch...16 Jun 2008 21:04 GMT2
It struck me yesterday that my recent discussion with Woody about Unlimited
data plans, when compared to my pointing out (to Sarah) that there is no such
thing as an iTouch, are at odds. I can't have it both ways and complain about
the use of iTouch and also accept the ...
