| There has to be a reason... | 24 May 2008 15:30 GMT | 3 |
I have described this problem before in this newsgroup, but it is still baffling me: I have two G4s which each has an Airport Extreme card fitted. Both suffer from the same problem, tho' the one, an iBook far more than the other, an aluminium Powerbool. The problem is that

| Larger PATA 2.5" drives? | 24 May 2008 01:57 GMT | 12 |
I've found an external 2.5" PATA drive enclosure which I'd forgotten I had (bought in error a while ago, meant to get the SATA version). It's a good one - Macally PHR-250CC USB 2.0/Firewire 400 with option for external power.

| RAM and graphics card for Mac Pro | 23 May 2008 21:35 GMT | 5 |
I bought an 8 core Mac Pro a few months ago and am really happy with it, but would like to invest in a few upgrades. As Apple are notorious for gouging when it comes to memory upgrades it comes with the stock 2 gig of RAM, and it also has the entry level ATI graphics

I brought a iOmega 750Gb drive the one that goes nicely with a minimac. From dabs ~£140. I'm using it with a iMac G5 20" 2GHz. Partitioned it in to 5 drives (for testing carbon copy clone backups).

Are there any good suppliers of spares for old Macs going back to Mac II vintage. I looked online and saw a couple, VIS and forevermac but wondered if there are any others that people have used and would recommend.

This may be common knowledge, but it wasn't mine. Since the Finder is just another database manager (the file system is essentially a database) you might naively believe that the Finder

| 2-disk caddy/chassis for IDE disks? | 23 May 2008 15:32 GMT | 1 |
Having replaced some disks in my server, I have a couple of 250gb IDE drives going spare. I quite like the idea of sticking them in a caddy of some sort of hooking them up through USB. Any recommendations/suggestions for a 2-disk (at least) USB-connected caddy.

| Airport Profiles - where are they? | 23 May 2008 13:54 GMT | 5 |
I use Airport Admin Utility to setup my Airport Express and it allows me to save different collections of settings under named "profiles". This makes it a simple matter to switch between the different configurations I use in different situations (eg. NAT, bridged, or client mode).

| Now that's just silly | 23 May 2008 11:52 GMT | 9 |
WD have launched a range of pocket, bus-powered Firewire drives. I was interested right up until I read The Register's article on them - they need to be plugged into both Firewire (400 only) and USB ports because they use USB bus power, not Firewire.
