Backup iTunes purchases27 Mar 2008 21:39 GMT23
I've been buying TV episodes on the iTunes Music Store. (You get
desperate for TV in English when living in a non-English speaking
country.) However, my laptop's hard disc is now full and I need to make
space so I can download more episodes. I don't want to lose the episodes

Failing original G5 iMac27 Mar 2008 20:56 GMT1
Dear All
A client has a 20" late 2004 model 20" G4 iMac. As it starts up the video
flashes and writes artifacts to the screen as it transits from the grey Unix
phase to the blue Aqua phase. Sometimes these prevent startup and the machine
MacSoup + MBP - numeric keypad = irritation!27 Mar 2008 20:52 GMT37
I am irritated...
Having just taken delivery of a shiny new MacBook Pro, the intention was
for it to replace my Powerbook.  Mostly going fine, except for one
thing; MacSoup.
Time Machine dubiosity27 Mar 2008 20:46 GMT7
After finally getting my various Macs backing up to their own private
100gig max .arsebundles on my NAS box, last night one of them stopped
doing so - naturally it's my main box, a Mini.
The Mini mounts the host drive, then the .sparsebundle, works out what
Where's packages folder in Leopard27 Mar 2008 20:44 GMT8
I always do install and keep package when updating via software
update. Used to be easy to find the package in library/packages. Can't
find that folder anymore. Does Leopard store these somewhere else now?
Cheers
Changing UID27 Mar 2008 19:06 GMT21
If I'm going to NFS mount my files on my Sun server from my Mac, I assume I'm
going to have to change my UID on the Mac. Is there any reason why I can't just
edit /etc/passwd and do a "chown -R" on my home directory, as I would on any
other Unix-like box...?
More on Apple pushing Safari to Windows users - now they are not allowed to install it27 Mar 2008 17:37 GMT2
Following on from the fuss in the recent thread about Apple ticking the
"Yes please, I'd love to have Safari installed along with my iTunes
updates"[1] for Windows users updating their iTunes software, now it
appears that the EULA presented forbids the installation of Safari on a ...
Special privileges within x minutes of logging in27 Mar 2008 17:37 GMT7
Is it the case - in a terminal shell or elsehwere - that the system
grants the user privileges within a short time of logging in that would
otherwise require explicit authentication?
Or have I misremembered something?

Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Okay, took delivery today. Popped into the Trafford Ctr. Applestore and
got a stock Mac Pro 2.8GHz - 2GB RAM, 320GB HD, standard ATI graphics.
The intention is to buy the Intel 8800 at a later date (maybe a month or

Probably been done to death, but I'm asking anyway - want to access     the files/drives on a 'doze box (XP Home SP2) from my laptop (MBP 10.4.11)27 Mar 2008 11:35 GMT2
The problem is, of course, that the MBP's upstairs in my room (so,
therefore, wireless). I remember I had a helluva job with my G5
(Ethernet) so I'm probably asking the impossible. The main reason
being that the 'doze box has 2x500GB HDDs and it would be useful to
OSX10.5 sluggish27 Mar 2008 08:04 GMT21
Easter Greetings Bunnies!
I recently upgraded my iMac to 10.5. I have a G5 1.8, with 768 meg
ram.
Things seem to be running increasingly sluggish - windows take time to
Time Machine - gentle warning about missed backups27 Mar 2008 08:03 GMT7
I just got a warning from that Time Machine has not been able to back up my
MBP for 10 days [1], and suggesting I check the settings or select another
target disk. Nice.
