Apart from increasing the RAM and doing the firmware upgrades I have one question. Do I need the retail version of 10.3 on CD or can I use a machine specific version on CD as these are cheaper on Ebay.

Very impressed indeed. My brother-in-law has handed me his old DV camcorder to see if I can extract a movie off it. We didn't have any luck on his PC, and he's having trouble with his DVD burner.
