OS X server advantages28 Feb 2008 22:49 GMT7
So I'm looking into using a Mac Pro as a compute server for people to
log in to mainly via ssh, but maybe sometimes other file services. Are
there any clear advantages to Server over standard OS X that I should
know about? Also if there's anything I can't do with XGrid without OS

What's the best way to do a full-blown backup?28 Feb 2008 21:14 GMT8
What is the simplest way to do a full backup (i.e. take a disk image, in
case I have to restore from an empty hard-drive in the worst worst case)?
Related questions:  (i) What kind of compression ratio can I expect, and
(ii) would I be able to use the disk image to do a partial ...

Pages/Nisus and refuse to use Word. Amy advice, other than asking it
Multitouch28 Feb 2008 20:32 GMT4
Just got an email from apple advertising the new models of MB and MBP.
Was it really too much to ask for multitouch across the range rather
than just on the pros?  I would have thought it would be the a great
selling point for the mass market notebooks rather than being something ...

iPod Touch applications28 Feb 2008 18:00 GMT6
Just bought an iPod Touch from John Lewis. Very nice and all that, but
none of the new apps (mail, maps etc), and iTunes is asking me to pay
£12. Am I missing something here? The web site says nothing about paying:

Adding Mail toolbar icons?28 Feb 2008 15:15 GMT-
Can I add an icon to Tiger's Mail toolbar that will either a) run an
Applescript or b) invoke one of Mail's menu items?
If not, can I do it in Leopard's Mail?

Apple part numbers28 Feb 2008 11:20 GMT10
Dear All
I've just received two 20" iMacs for two clients, delivered from Apple. Both
are model A1224 machines, but one is a part no. MA876B/A (in a Leoprad
pictured box) and one is a model no. ZOE22B/A (in a Tiger-pictured box).
Keywurl - use google.co.uk in Safari28 Feb 2008 11:16 GMT3
I've noticed many posts asking about whether Safari's search box can be
customised (in particular to google.co.uk).
I came across this today.

auto ID3 tagger for OS X?28 Feb 2008 10:53 GMT2
Has anyone come across a decent, preferably free, ID3 tagger for OS X
that'll let me point it at a folder that contains an album of badly-
tagged MP3s, and let me specify the album name or artist - then have
the app go off to freedb or similar and tag the folder contents
Logging Router Outings28 Feb 2008 08:40 GMT-
I've noticed lately that my Orange router cuts out quite regularly, only
for a minute or three, but there's a definite trend to less reliability.
Is there any software for the Mac I can use that will monitor the router
for a day or three and produce a log? Would be interesting to ...
