Planning home network12 Feb 2008 01:52 GMT3
There have been many discussions here of hardware suited to small
networks, so I know they can be set up and names like Netgear are
tucked away for future reference.  For now I'd just like to check
there would be nothing too strange or expensive in a home network
Removing alien widget?12 Feb 2008 00:25 GMT8
Yesterday my wife was using Safari on my iMac to trawl the web for
quotes on Pet Insurance.  Today I open Dashboard, and there's a widget
there I've never seen before.  It appears on top of the other widgets,
and consists of a very badly-designed order form for dog insurance,
Is it possible to DIY repair a powerbook charger ?11 Feb 2008 23:15 GMT2
I am now on my 3d charger for my G4 Powerbook - it is the 65W A1021
white jobbie.  The previous 2 both failed at the same point, namely
where the wire joins the white plug that goes into the 'book.  It crimps
and twists over time and then starts to short out. I'm assuming that
iPod alarm clock?11 Feb 2008 22:02 GMT8
Can anyone recommend an iPod alarm clock? I'd like something where I
don't have to faff with setting the iPod up to play a certain playlist
each evening; instead I'd like something that played the tracks in a
pre-defined playlist in order (even if the iPod was previously set to

Publishing to both pdf and html ?????11 Feb 2008 19:17 GMT31
We are an engineering firm, wanting to produce publicity flyers 1-2
pages long in both pdf and html.
How to do it doesn't seem obvious.
Had a look at InDesign & GoLive.  Not impressed, repurposing InDesign

Hello.  I am new to Google Groups.  I would just like to leave this
message to all of you interested in an Apple iPhone.  This website IS
NOT a scam and will not send you junk mail or ask for your credit card
number.  Just follow these steps:

For the purposes of backing up just where does Bento store its database file.

Strange Scrollwheel behaviour11 Feb 2008 17:20 GMT2
The scrollwheel on our apple mouse is refusing to scroll down, except in
Google Earth, where it works, if fitfully.
I have cleaned it with alchohol like I have done many times before to no
avail, though no gunk appeared to be disloged this time. I can still
Where does Postfix store mail?11 Feb 2008 15:30 GMT13
My mini HD has died a death. Great sadness. Luckily I can still access
the drive to rescue stuff. The only things that need recovering are the
family's emails - I ran the mini as a mail server after installing
Postfix Enabler.

Unlocked iPhone  - decent iPod Touch replacement?11 Feb 2008 14:50 GMT10
I haven't followed the iphone developments because I'm not a big mobile
user - but I do need one, and use a PAYG Virgin phone. I was also
thinking of getting an iPod Touch.
Would an unlocked iPhone serve well as a PAYG phone/Touch?
An interesting journey of discovery11 Feb 2008 12:39 GMT1
I keep finding interesting and sometimes useful bits of OSX.
The latest is 'Quick Look' for Mail attachments.
Is this new in Leopard? I don't recall it in previous versions but I may
not have been paying attention.
TrueCrypt 5 out - now has a Mac version11 Feb 2008 11:43 GMT39
This is interesting to me - I use encrypted disk images for my
financial stuff at the moment, but that causes a problem if I need to
swap some of it with non-Mac users (as I do for the hosting thing I run
on the side).
