Since yesterday, I've had an item in my menu bar: the phrase "Apply
Quartz Filter to PDF", one of those whirly timer icons and a red 'stop'
button that bonks when you click it.
There are various plausible candidates listed in Activity Monitor but I

I'd like a freeware or cheapware app (or built-in OSX Leopard feature)
that graphs network activity over a long period, say at leat a day and
preferably a week. I've tried Granet (period is not configurable),
XMonitor (graphs are incomprehensible unless you're a Linux type) and AP

On Saturday I nipped intp John Lewis in Sheffield armed with ALL of my

I'm having problems with Time Machine, which has stopped being able to
do backups (as of, approximately, the 10.5.2 upgrade but I can't say
whether it's related).
In console.app, I see messages like the following:

How do I get mail.app to use the existing IMAP folders Sent and Trash,
rather than creating 'Sent Messages' and 'Deleted Messages'?
I'm sure that in 10.4 I ctrl-clicked on the folder and had an option

I don't know if this is just "one of those things" going on, but it
looks like when I upgraded to 10.5.2, Mail.app decided (on its own, and
without asking) to take the junk mail filter out of training mode.
i.e. instead of colouring messages brown and leaving them in the inbox,

What free backup program do people recommend?  I have a machine that
I'm planning to move to Tiger soon, and I'll use Time Machine then, so
I'm not interested in spending more money.

I'm picking a full install version of OSX 10.5 today - The oppo at the
apple shop said that a full, clean install was the best way forward
So  - in addition to backing up my actual files (pics, docs etc) what
do I need to back up first to make this as painless as possible - eg I

There's a strange flaw in Default Folder X 4.0.1 that seems to afflict me
alone. I've had a long correspondence with the developer about it but we're
flummoxed.
This is what happens:

My iMac appears twice in my Powerbook Finder shared machine list: once
as itself and once as a Windows-looking icon.
The converse is not true: my Powerbook appears only once in my iMac's
finder list.
