Force a Mail redownload of an attachment?29 Jan 2008 10:57 GMT2
I need to redownload a Mail attachment. I have tried deleting the file
from ~/Library/Mail Downloads but I'm still not seeing it redownload -
this is a 10Mb file and it appears in about a second if I try to
redownload it.
inserting special characters29 Jan 2008 09:24 GMT2
Any bright ideas about how to set up keyboard shortcuts for inserting
such things as Greek letters and maths symbols into text? I've got a
Launchbar shortcut to the CharPalette and Keyboard Server apps, but it's
slow and clumsy (and the 'insert' button on Charpalette is greyed-out
My first crash (TM)29 Jan 2008 09:08 GMT8
I've just had Finder beachball me and I couldn't get out of it :( It
needed a hard reset to be able to reboot or logout. That's the first
time I've had to do that on this MBP since I got it. :)
Is there another way I could have rebooted more gracefully?

Leopard parental controls: half the apps are text files...29 Jan 2008 07:20 GMT2
Odd one here.
On a parental controlled account which used to work fine, I've opened
the Applications folder and found that about half the apps have turned
into text files (no, really...) and that some have vanished entirely.

Is there a Windows equivalent to Rogue Amoeba's Fission (for editing     MP3 files without re-enconding)29 Jan 2008 01:46 GMT1
I will be without a mac for a few weeks.
Are there any Windows utilities out there?
I have looked at mp3-direct-cut: no where near as good as Fission. By
a long shot.
Nano forces upgrade???29 Jan 2008 00:42 GMT1
Hmmmm
Got a new 8gb nano today, plugged it into my iMac - running iTunes
7.6, with all my playlists etc from my dead iPod mini...
It comes up with "This iPod requires OSX 10.4.8 to run...
Is there anything at all to suggest EXISTING MacBook Pro touchpads     will get gesture support (like on the MBA)29 Jan 2008 00:26 GMT8
It would be neat if we could have that.
If Apple do it, I really hope that Jobs doesn't ask for $20 cos he'll
sound like a total bell-end!!
Surely a firmware upgrade is all that's required?
iTunes 7.6 - any reason not to?28 Jan 2008 22:40 GMT3
I've just been put on "upgrade wariness alert" after the spodge of
Quicktime 7.4, which apparently doesn't play nice with FCP, After
Effects and other video applications.
Hogwasher questions28 Jan 2008 22:29 GMT4
Couple of quickies.
Can Hogwasher be set to always use a specific sig, rather than having to
always pick one? Im finding it a pain.
Can it be set so Internet links are clickable?
Applecare28 Jan 2008 22:26 GMT9
I have never had applecare, or really seen the need for it, but seeing
as sabs macbook hasn't been brilliant in reliabilty of later (backlight
went funny for a bit, shuts down when it feels like it), and as this
macbook pro is a company machine I thought I might as well get it.
Newsreaders28 Jan 2008 22:08 GMT14
After having stuck with using Xnews on Windows (and therefore running it
under Parallels whenever I needed to) I've just realized what key features
I needed in a newsreader.
After trying Opera Mail for a while, I found that I could use the
I always wake up with a hard-on. What gives?28 Jan 2008 21:18 GMT16
Well not always, but often.
What's the score? I don't like to choke the chicken before breakfast.

[OT}: The F-105 Thunderchief's nickname28 Jan 2008 21:09 GMT-
<http://www.vectorsite.net/avf105.html>:
* One other minor detail about the F-105 was the nickname "Thud". One of
the alternate stories for its origin is that it was devised from Chief
Thunderthud, a character on the popular HOWDY DOODY show for kids from
