With the arrival of 10.5, 10.4 discs are being sold off at reasonable
prices .....
I've just upgraded from 10.3.9 through 10.4 to 10.4.11 and installed all
the recommended Apple upgrades.

Any idea what process is responsible to populating the 'SHARED' section in
the Finder? The bit that detects network shares on the local network?
I only ask because I'd like to be able to kill it from time-to-time, in

Annoyed by the dirtiness of my Mighty Mouse, I decided to replace it
with a competitor - the Kensington Mini Bluetooth Mouse. It isn't as
nice as the MM, but it doesn't have the stupid uncleanable trackball.
Anyway ...

I'm not sure how this happened, probably a result of an overcrowded
desk, but I now have my desktop icon in the trash. It contains
everything that is on the desktop, folders etc., which are all still
visible on the desktop.
