Pipex, Tiscali, phone lines15 Jan 2008 22:02 GMT1
I recently received a letter from BT expressing regret that we're
transferring our calls to another telephone company. Since I hadn't
transferred our calls, I was a little mystified. Turns out Pipex were
taking over our calls.
iDVD 4 and menu text15 Jan 2008 20:05 GMT-
I've just used iDVD (version 4.0.2(?)) for the first time - in fact it's
the first time I've ever burned a DVD - and it seemed to go ok except
that the text quality on the menu screen is awful - looks like a resaved
jpeg at 2% quality setting.
Wireless router - recommendations15 Jan 2008 18:26 GMT33
Can anyone recommend a good, reliable wireless router?
I bought a Linksys one for my parents, but the damn thing keeps
forgetting its settings - resulting in regular, maddening 2 hour phone
conversations to fix it (with a slightly deaf, computer illiterate 75
Toner cartridges - refill or buy new?15 Jan 2008 18:09 GMT-
The toner is getting low on my printer, and a quick search has brought
out a number of sources who sell both the new toners, or a refill kit at
a fraction of the new price.
This is for a Samsung ML2570.
Todays keynote - what time?15 Jan 2008 17:32 GMT13
Am I right in thinking it's 5pm our time?
I which case 'arse', as it will be over by the time I get back.

Nolobe Iris Image Editor15 Jan 2008 16:57 GMT5

beta 1 now available for download. Looks to be quite interesting.
However I can't say any more than that, since the beta is Intel only.
Grrrr.
Running widgets outside Dashboard15 Jan 2008 16:37 GMT5
Is there any way to run a Dashboard widget in a normal application
window i.e. without having to open Dashboard? I ask as Dashboard is
very slow to start up and load all the widgets, so if I want to use
just one regularly for a job (e.g. Translation) then I'd have to
DVD encoding15 Jan 2008 16:37 GMT8
Once you have the video files - as Quicktime or whatever - what's the
fastest thing to encode them ?
iDVD seems glacially slow to me as do most others. ffmpegX seems about
the quickest but doesn't do a straight burn - it codes then you can
Macbook Keyboards15 Jan 2008 15:54 GMT6
It's a complete pain to get to an Apple Store from where I am, and I
really don't want to send my MacBook away for repair - especially as I
spend much of my time away from home these days, so it could be weeks
before I get it back again..... so going for an Apple repair extension
DVD dual layer to single layer15 Jan 2008 15:44 GMT5
Any freebie conversion tools? I need to do this just once, so not
really interested in a pay-for tool (unless it's VisualHub which I own,
and which I'm -sure- can do it somehow but doesn't appear obvious to
me). I do have Popcorn 1 somewhere, but not sure if it runs on Leopard
Firefox, Google Toolbar, PageRank, Leopard15 Jan 2008 13:23 GMT1
Does anyone else use the above combination?
Since I got this MacBook Pro with Leopard, Google Toolbar's PageRank
doesn't work. Now that I check, none of Google Toolbar's features work.
Nor does the preferences option in Add-ons.
Leaked keynote or clever hoax ?15 Jan 2008 12:55 GMT3
Looks plausible to me:

Disappointed if it's for real though.

Does the combo updater include iLife updates?15 Jan 2008 09:37 GMT2
Garageband is failing to launch, it quits at the 'initialising' window.
Thinking of re-applying any updates - are GB updates in the combo updater?

Quicktime Pro oddness15 Jan 2008 09:16 GMT2
I have an mp4 video file from which I want to extract a section of audio. So...
1. Open up the file in Quicktime Pro
2. Set the relevant in/out and then Trim To Selection
3. Command-J, extract audio - now I have an audio-only 'movie' with
