WiFi/ad-hoc networking/DNS question24 Sep 2007 18:29 GMT6
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of wifi and ad-hoc networking
as I recently came up against a problem I couldn't solve with this.
We stayed at a remote self-catering cottage last week in the Lizard
where there was free public wifi access. Using my trusty PB G3/333

Saving a shockwave from Firefox on Mac24 Sep 2007 17:42 GMT1
I have here a shockwave flash video that (A) I'd like to save and (B) make
into a format that Connect360 can stream to the 360 console - what that means
is that it must be playable in Quick Time (I have QT Pro).
How?!
Bouncing?24 Sep 2007 16:13 GMT24
What is the typical reason something just bounces in the dock?
Scenario: Daughter at new college, 20 (potentially)  identical Macs.
Lad next to her wants to open Word but every time he tries it just
bounces in the dock. Her's opens ok, she doesn't need it so they swap
Cheap USB Mac compatible MIDI I/O box?24 Sep 2007 13:33 GMT7
I have a Roland PC-300 controller keyboard which I use for GB and other
stuff, I also have an elderly SX-KN800 which I'd like to hook up to the Mac.
The Roland has a USB interface for which I needed a driver (holding back when
10.5 comes around due to that blob) but the KN800 has ...
MacSOUP trivia24 Sep 2007 10:07 GMT30

I have OSX 10.4.10
But MacSOUP reports 10.4.9 in the post headers.
Background pictures in folders24 Sep 2007 07:25 GMT4
When you give a folder a background image, where is that info kept? Is
it the .DS_Store file in the folder itself, or is it somewhere else?
I'm trying to give a folder on a network share (Samba on FreeBSD) a
backgroud picture but it won't persist through unmounting/remounting.
New iMacs and upgrading24 Sep 2007 06:24 GMT21
Does anyone have one of the new iMacs?
Are they quiet? Are the gloss displays any good? It strikes me that the
slimmer design might affect cooling?
I'm thinking of selling my 'old' core duo 20" for the simple reason that
Smooth System Checklist24 Sep 2007 01:06 GMT23
I'm creating a list of all the things I can do to make my system run as
smoothly as possible. I'm posting it here in the hope someone will find
it useful or suggest some amendments.
Remember, this is a personal checklist, so parts are specific to my

Q: What's the difference between Madeleine McCann and Freddie Mercury?
A: Freddie actually wanted it in the arse.

Another faggot group that needs some 'attention'.
DTWP: Wow, how to tell which?23 Sep 2007 20:46 GMT-
I have my iMac G5 dual screen setup set to randomly - and I mean randomly in
the Apple sense - change wallpapers in a 1000+ image folder. Needless to say,
it picks a lot of the same images a lot of the time. Sometimes it picks a gem
and I want to save it.
Sony Clie Palm 4.1 sync with Mac OS X 10.423 Sep 2007 20:27 GMT4
I suddenly - and very weirdly - found the adaptor for charging and
synchonising my old Sony Clie.
How can I install stuff on it, and synchronise calendars and so on? Do I
have to use Palm's software, or can I use Mac OS X's built in stuff?
iCal sharing23 Sep 2007 19:32 GMT14
Sorry to be a bore (having asked this question at regular intervals over
the last three years or so) but what's the latest state of play in iCal
sharing?
By "sharing" I mean proper sharing, as in you and I having a calendar
