Release date for next OS version ?04 Sep 2007 19:47 GMT4
I'm thinking of getting a new iMac but I'm concerned that the new OS
is supposed to be just round the corner. I don't want to have to fork
out £99 to upgrade just after buying a new box. I've been told that
when apple is about to release a new OS anyone buying a new machine

Apple Remote and Powerpoint/NeoOffice04 Sep 2007 16:50 GMT4
Is there any way to get the Apple remote (with a MBP) to play nicely
with either of the above applications? I've googled around a bit and it
looks like I'm out of luck. I thought I'd try here as well just in case...
TIA

Bought an Apple TV04 Sep 2007 10:32 GMT14
I was in London today. Popped into the Regent Street store and bought
an Apple TV to replace a Mac mini I was using as a media server in my
living room. The only thing I was using the mini for was iTunes.
Exactly what Apple TV is designed for. The mini is going to pastures

I must have missed the announcement, but given the price it's probably
for the best. :-)

Got KDE4 Konsole terminal running at last!04 Sep 2007 09:04 GMT-
Finally I have a "decent" native terminal application. Kudos to the guys
at http://ranger.users.finkproject.org/kde/index.php/Home for making
development builds of KDE4 available.
I have been reduced to using mrxvt under X11 until now to get a terminal
Getting started on broadband with a dickey eMac04 Sep 2007 08:29 GMT64
I would be grateful for any help you can give in shaping a
suitable course of action for a friend here in remotest Keswick
(and far from handy Apple system expertise).
His one Apple, an eMac+10.3, has just had its modem break.
iDVD slideshows04 Sep 2007 07:59 GMT5
I havd a slideshow in iDVD without around 100 photos in (with
transitions). DVD Player.app played the rest of the disc image OK, but
around slide 80 or so every photo became a pure green screen.
Is this a known problem with iDVD 2008? Is there an upper limit to
G5 coolant leaks04 Sep 2007 06:59 GMT3
Keep reading about folks' G5s spitting, popping and turning up their
toes when the coolant leaks. Seems particularly to affect November 2004
models - although newer ones are now dying also.
Apple appear to have been sympathetic about out-of-warranty claims and
Pages export to Word weirdness03 Sep 2007 23:16 GMT1
I have a twenty page or so document that I've created, consisting of
quite a few full-page images, a few tables and some indented lists.
Export to Word, then try to open in Word (XP). No go - the document
actually crashes Word. It opens, you see the first page, but then Word
"iTunes cannot connect to the music store"03 Sep 2007 22:55 GMT1
Was trying to subscribe to a podcast, lifeasacomic at
http://lifeasacomic.blogspot.com/, using the latest iTunes. When I
tried to connect I had a a message "this isn't available in the UK
store", so I switched to the US store to see if I could get any better
Virginmedia router question03 Sep 2007 21:49 GMT6
Well, finally signed up with VM on the £10/pm 2Mb/unlimited tariff
(it's not on their website anymore, but still available over the
phone). I assume they're going to give me some sort of cable modem
box.  I want to put a wireless router in between the box & the iMac.
