| iTunes/iPod sync question | 11 Apr 2007 21:21 GMT | 1 |
I've authorised my wife's Mac so that it can access and play songs from my shared iTunes library. Is there a way that she can put tunes from my shared library on to her iPod? Do we have to authorise that iPod as well?

| MacSOUP Quirk | 11 Apr 2007 19:26 GMT | 5 |
If I hold down the left mouse button over a MacSOUP window, CPU usage soars to 100%. It stays there until the button is released. I don't notice this with any other app. Any ideas what would cause this? Is it because it's not a Cocoa app?

| This is not surprising any more. | 11 Apr 2007 18:53 GMT | 54 |
I just installed OSX - with an erase and install. I slapped in the second install disk, went to a meeting, then came back to a kernel panic. I can't see a common thread here; it's not the hardware (since in the last few weeks I've had problems with three completely different

| How is Airport connectivity on an iBoko with 10.4.9? | 11 Apr 2007 18:52 GMT | 3 |
I see to recall that some people didn't update from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8, because on the latter Airport connectivity was unreliable. Is that true? (a search on groups.google didn't help me) If so, is the problem fixed on 10.4.9? Is there any (other) reason not

| Does mail.app barf with too many rules ?? | 11 Apr 2007 16:21 GMT | 2 |
I have never got on with rules in mail. I test something, it seems to work, then I get excited and write lots of rules. They don't work, I get fed up, and stop using them. A few months later I try again and the cycle repeats itself.

| [Coding Corner] What I have learned today | 11 Apr 2007 13:01 GMT | 7 |
Accessor methods for instance variables are A Good Thing. If nothing else they handle memory management for you (if written correctly) So, if I understand it correctly, if I have an instance variable along the lines of:

| Kill file entries in MacSoup | 11 Apr 2007 10:54 GMT | 18 |
1: If I wish to killfile " Uncle Harry < UH@lovepeacehappiness.net > " which parts do I put in the From entry. The whole lot or just the < ....> part? 2: Is using the 'From' header the best way of doing this anyway?

| Stop Front Row previews? | 11 Apr 2007 10:52 GMT | 3 |
Is there any way of stopping Front Row from previewing a video? Some of my videos start playing the film, others don't and I can't see any obvious differences between the two kinds. I want the films -not- to play automatically, just want a static picture. I tried adding

| App to sleep and launch another app? | 11 Apr 2007 07:28 GMT | 3 |
I've moved my iTunes library for the Mac Mini to an external drive. iTunes is set to run on launch, and it's now often complaining that it can't find its library. Presumably this is because the firewire drive hasn't finished mounting yet.

| MSN Messenger equivalent for Mac | 11 Apr 2007 01:19 GMT | 11 |
My daughter is currently using one of my business machines and I want it back, and have her use the Mac Mini. She's never used a Mac before, but she's fairly bright so I don't think she'll have too many problems.

| Major mac user in Leeds? | 10 Apr 2007 22:41 GMT | 4 |
I spotted a job advert on-line over the weekend for Mac support, so I E-mailed my CV and covering letter to the agency concerned. However the agency doesn't think I'm suitable for the role and won't put me forward, as I've 'not worked in that particular sector before',

| Private browsing mode | 10 Apr 2007 21:26 GMT | 20 |
I find myself using private browsing mode more times than not now, and I'm pretty close to just leaving it on full time. However it's not without its quirks I've noticed, and particularly with the back button. I'm finding that when I hit the back button in private browsing mode,

| Double-click associations for X11 apps | 10 Apr 2007 19:45 GMT | 15 |
I have an excellent graph display tool called xplot that runs under X11, and an ongoing supply of its files that end in the .xpl extension. I want to be able to double-click the files and have them open up in xplot automatically. Simple eh? Well... no!
