Presuming that this isn't just my magical powers at work, how do I sort
this out?
I cloned my MBP to a USB disk. Booted off it this morning to check it was
all okay (chose the USB disk from the Startup Disk control panel) then

2x2GB RAM kit or 1x4GB kit for Mac Pro?29 Mar 2007 10:27 GMT7
The former is £294 ex VAT; the latter £391 (both at Crucial). A clear
price advantage but what about performance? Is there any advantage
(apart from more free slots for future use) to going with the 4GB kit?
Safari losing internet connection29 Mar 2007 09:21 GMT2

Yet whilst this is happening I can get email and browse fine in other
browsers. If I wait a minute or two Safari comes back to life.
Making PDFs with Claris Works under OS929 Mar 2007 02:59 GMT4
The "Subject" line outlines it.  A friend who uses Claris Works
(version unknown; "old" is her guess) under OS9 needs to output
PDFs but is getting obstructive static from the software, about
not having selected a PostScript printer yet.

Weird problem29 Mar 2007 00:15 GMT13
After an hour or so of normal use (mostly email & browser) my computer
running 10.3.9 suddenly started behaving oddly - ie clicking on an
application in the dock didn't open the application but instead opened
a finder window (Applications) in column mode with the application icon

My friend buggered my iBook28 Mar 2007 20:38 GMT15
I lent my iBook running OS X to a friend who was doing a project. The
sun-of-a-gun thought he was being clever and tried to the /Library
folder into the /System folder which also contained a Library folder
claiming he thought it was in the wrong place. Now my iBook won't boot
Rootkits and other nasties - what should I check?28 Mar 2007 18:51 GMT4
I regularly use my PowerBook on the network of one of my clients - who
has discovered today that their extranet box has been compromised by
something called irc/backdoor/sdbot2, and also by something called
"DTC tEAM". Bad news for them of course, and at the moment they are

Just seen this

on eBay. Quite how an LCII  can be almost new I can't imagine. The price
looks a bit off as well.
FTP'ing to geocities28 Mar 2007 11:42 GMT-
Before I hit something, has anybody got any idea why I can't FTP to
Geocities?
I've got a new account setup which I need just for a small site I'm
doing for a friend. I can connect to the account, check the webmail, and
Activity monitor alike?28 Mar 2007 11:41 GMT2
Is here an activity monitor-type program that...
1. Will show graphs of CPU and memory usage in the same window
2. Isn't in the menu bar - I'd like a proper floating window
3. Isn't a dashboard widget - see above
