Put network locations in the menu bar?22 Feb 2007 11:13 GMT4
I find myself switching network locations frequently, and would like to
put them in the menu bar. Can't see a way of doing this though - does
anyone know one?
I've found a shareware app called Location X which will do this and
USB charging ipod (4G)22 Feb 2007 10:18 GMT5
Ipod ran out of batteries this morning and as I'm at work I've only got
a USB lead to charge it with.  I can't plug it into a mac as it then
tries to mount it as a drive which takes battery power.  It just beeps a
few times then dies.  I plugged it into the USB port of another ...

This is posted from a Mac running OS 8.6, and wery well, for its
purpose. However, things move on, and with it, a need for a more modern
computing platform.
I think I remember having seen somewhere that the later versions of OS X
BBC podcasts failing?22 Feb 2007 02:20 GMT4
I went to get my weekly dose of 'From our Correspondent' last night via
iTunes, but it came up with an error 'not available or no valid url'.
I've since tried a few more times, but get the same error.
The files are there, and have been manually downloaded via a web
Airport Extreme22 Feb 2007 00:39 GMT4
I've just plugged my telewest cable modem into my airport extreme and
everything seems to be working ok from the automatic setup.
The weird thing is I can connect and browse the internet ok, but the
light on the front just keeps flashing amber - which means it cannot

Dear All

USB lockups21 Feb 2007 18:53 GMT4
My G4 tower running 10.4.8 has taken to ignoring the keyborad & mouse
after I wake it up. The first keystroke wakes it up, then it no longer
accepts any further keystrokes or mouse movements or clicks. Happened 3
times yesterday. I can ssh in and reboot the Mac cleanly but it's a ...
Mini Core Duo as Home Cinema source21 Feb 2007 17:39 GMT3
I watched a couple of divxes last night via DVI through my MBP, rather
than the usual burn-a-dvd option...and the difference in quality through
the DVI rather than that or the S-video widget has spurred me into
making an almost instant purchasing decision.  It was, to be blunt,
Macbook Harddrive Upgrade21 Feb 2007 17:03 GMT4
My Macbook is needing a new Harddrive upgrade. Currently it has a 60GB
which was fine to start with but really needing an upgrade now. Could
anyone recommend a drive and supplier? I'm assuming the drive can easily
be switched round as long as its a 2.5" SATA 5400 and I've seen a
Wireless & wired network21 Feb 2007 16:38 GMT5
I have a wireless network at home, all macs and pcs connected to it. If I
wanted to connect together 2 machines with an ethernet cable, just how do I
specify that they should transfer files on the faster(wired) connection
while still being connected to the wireless network??
Mac mini power/speed comparison21 Feb 2007 11:01 GMT6
I put three Mac Minis in the office a while ago, 1.33GHz G4 PPC
machines. I've been a little disappointed in their performance; it's not
a problem though, they're adequate for their purpose and I don't have to
use one. It is now time, however, to replace my aged Windows 98 PC, and,
Dead pixels - how many is still perfect?21 Feb 2007 10:14 GMT10
I'm considering, as per another thread, either a couple of iMacs or
Minis with Cinema displays. Over the years I've been fortunate to not
purchase an LCD / TFT that has any dead pixels. I remember reading of
others who hadn't been as fortunate, and that the policy of the
Rounded corners etc21 Feb 2007 09:07 GMT2
