[Semi OT] Like a cat on a hot powerpack23 Feb 2007 09:55 GMT2
Samson's just stepped on my MBP powerpack - I've never seen him move
so fast! He leapt about 3' in the air and yelped! I felt it, it's
searingly hot - I dropped it the second I picked it up. Is it usual
for a laptop powerpack to become this hot (I've not had a laptop for
SpamSieve23 Feb 2007 07:30 GMT6
Yesterday I transfered over 40,000 emails from my PC into Mail, most of
which were spam mixed in with good mails that I really needed to sort out.
I installed SpamSieve and a few hours later I now have a perfectly clean set
of mail boxes and spam gets sent right to the trash(I get ...
Rough editing of sound files22 Feb 2007 23:32 GMT10
Dear All
A professional* client needs to make a "rough edit" of sound material from
some audio CDs (containing interview material), he then wants to generate a
set of sound clips, and finally burn them to audio CD for despatch to his
How does one play this avi?22 Feb 2007 23:23 GMT8
It's like this: the following page:

T-Mobile 3G / MacBook Mini-Review22 Feb 2007 20:36 GMT-
Finally stayed in a hotel where I had half decent 3G coverage this week,
so I bunged my T-Mobile Web and Walk SIM in my ancient Nokia 7600 3G
phone to use as a modem.[1]
I'm happy to report that it 'just works' in true Mac tradition - I ran a
Upgrading 10.39 to 10.4.6 without DVD Drive22 Feb 2007 18:54 GMT2
My DVD drive is flaky. Can I put the DVD in my XP machine, copy the DMG file
to the Powerbook and then run it from there from within OS X?
And if so, how much spare space would I need on the Powerbook prior to the
upgrade?
Stealing apps from a Mac22 Feb 2007 17:37 GMT28
Just a theoretical question but i recently took over a suite of Macs in
a school. With the (frankly lovely) method of installing by drag and
dropping .app files - how easy would it be for a pupil to 'borrow' some
of our software? I'm assuming that the registration part is stored
Macbook Pro fans22 Feb 2007 15:44 GMT4
It seems that my lovely and shiny Macbook pro has developed a noisy fan
on the left hand side. I rely on it on a daily basis for my job so as
you can imagine I'm not really wanting to lose it for a week whilst the
chaps at Apple repair it.
Innocent support22 Feb 2007 14:30 GMT1

Not quite as biased as the last one but essentially the same tired old junk.

Address book; where does it keep its data?22 Feb 2007 14:20 GMT4
My friend with the new IntelMini has just called me; she had some kind
of incident involving the Terminal Frisbee of Death and a restart (I've
talked to her since about Force Quit, which she'd forgotten) and her
address book is now blank. No entries. Where might she find them, if
Faulty LCD monitor repair options22 Feb 2007 14:18 GMT-
I have a faulty 17" Formac LCD monitor. 2001
When it's conencted to a Mac it shuts the Mac down, so I'm guessing some PSU
problem perhaps a short, but can I do anything about it.
I don;t mind taking it apart and messing about  but I'm reluctant to risk my
RealVNC multtiple sessions22 Feb 2007 13:21 GMT10
New to OS X this week so probably a daft question...
I've installed RealVNC vnc viewer, how can I have more than one session
open at once?
TIA,
MacBook Pro insomnia22 Feb 2007 13:04 GMT1
My wife has an "original" 17in MacBook Pro (i.e. not Core2Duo) that
starts to misbehave after roughly 2 days of uptime. For the first two
days after booting it will sleep properly when the lid is closed, but
thereafter it refuses to unless commanded to do so via the Apple menu
Can I convert .ape files?22 Feb 2007 12:25 GMT2
I have downloaded some music .ape files from a binary group. How do I get
them to play or convert them.
