Bill Gates: A born politician04 Feb 2007 23:13 GMT2
Regarding Vista, "I caught up with Bill (Gates)... and asked him, don't
we already have all this on the Mac?"
This is how he spun it:

Brent Cross today04 Feb 2007 21:53 GMT1
Yet again Apple's Genuis online reservation system said there were no
available spots today, despite me trying to reserve a spot at 0:05am
(-at- that time, not -for-...).
That's the third week running, so into Brent Cross I went. Got the
Backing up a Mail-base04 Feb 2007 19:59 GMT11
I wish they hadn't called it 'Mail'. Anyway...
My friend's switch to an IntelMini/10.4.8 from a beige G3/OS8.1 is now
pretty well complete and she is rilly, rilly happy. I now just have to
work out her backup routine. Text files are easy- I know there they are

What is wrong with these people?
The tagline should be:

Vista the first to include parental controls ..04 Feb 2007 18:59 GMT24
'Bill Gates repeatedly said in TV interviews that Windows Vista was
"the first operating system" to include parental controls.
That was news to the millions of users of Mac OS X "Tiger," who have
been using that OS's parental controls feature since April 2005, and
Someone is an £8000 a time whore in the News of the World - who is it?04 Feb 2007 18:25 GMT12
They were talking about this on the radio, but wound't name her for
'legal reasons'
Who is it?
Who's the whore?
Should I upgrade the graphics card in my G4 ?04 Feb 2007 15:07 GMT23
My lad is complaining that the games (nothing too heavy though) he is
playing on my G4/733 Dig Audio in 10.4.8, are running slowly for his liking.
Just wonder whether upgrading the graphics card will help or whether I
would be better replacing the whole caboodle with a mini from ...
Should gays be kept in cages?04 Feb 2007 14:51 GMT-
For the safety of all humans should all gays be kept in cages?
You'd never need to feed them because they recycle.
They are filthy people. maybe this is the best way to deal with them.
Open with - Other - Recommended applications - change?04 Feb 2007 14:08 GMT3
I'm using NVU, an open source html editor. If I right click on foo.html
and try to 'Open with', NVU isn't there. If I go to 'Other', it isn't
even under 'Recommended applications'.
How does this work? Can I change things so that NVU is offered as an
Handbrake vs Mactheripper04 Feb 2007 13:55 GMT35
I'm starting to rip my DVD's to have them available on disk on the Mac
mini in my living room. I ripped The Incredibles using HandBrake to a
H.264 MPEG with AAC audio. It seemed to me that there was a small lip
sync issue on Playback. This was ripped on a Mac Pro and playback was ...
Video compression, Final Cut Pro, and combing04 Feb 2007 13:49 GMT2
I've been mucking about with video compression, and am a bit confused.
If I compress a test file using Compressor, it plays back with lots of
unsightly 'combing' when there's fast sideways movement in the clip.
If I import the file into Final Cut Pro, and export using QuickTime

Multi-MacSpotting04 Feb 2007 11:20 GMT4
The one consolation for uk.comp.sys.mac's Scottish contingent today is
that their rugby went down to plans carefully made and tracked on what
looked to be an MacBook Pro 15". The camera kept panning to the England
coaching staff, and there was the laptop prominently displayed ...
Gates questions Mac security ..04 Feb 2007 10:52 GMT15
"Bill Gates has openly criticized Apple's 'Get a Mac' ads, called the
company a liar, and questioned the security of Apple's Mac OS X
operating system"
"We made it way harder for guys to do exploits,"
