Apple refurb store: UK vs US?13 Feb 2007 18:12 GMT6
Why does the US Apple refurb store have iBooks but the UK store doesn't?

EagleFiler13 Feb 2007 16:54 GMT-
I recently stumbled across an application called EagleFiler from
Michael Tsai <http://c-command.com/eaglefiler/>, one of the increasing
number of 'information repository' apps like Yojimbo etc.
What impressed me was how easily it made it to archive Mailsmith
Fantasy map gneration software13 Feb 2007 15:37 GMT19
Are there any apps that'll produce fictional maps like you would find
in a fantasy book, like the one in the Lord of the Rings. Either by
generating them at random of letting you drag and drop items like
mountains, etc. from a palette?
Apple store site in Firefox13 Feb 2007 13:34 GMT7
The Apple UK store doesn't show up properly in Firefox (no pictures) on
this 'ere Windows box, which makes it kind of hard to use. It's fine in
IE. Been like that for a couple of days now (probably more, but I haven't
been looking).

To upgrade XP Home to the full Vista (whatever that is?) using a cheaper
"upgrade" disc.
Why are gays full of sh1t?13 Feb 2007 01:45 GMT1

MacBook Pro hard drive replacement13 Feb 2007 00:36 GMT2
Just curious... how difficult and time-consuming is it to upgrade a hard
disk in a MacBook Pro?
It looks like removing a handful of screws and removing the top, so half
the effort of replacing an iBook battery but twice that of a MacBook?
Video file conversion13 Feb 2007 00:08 GMT23
Being new to the Mac I still haven't figured out a relatively quick way
to convert my eyeTV recordings, which I believe are in Mpeg 2 format to
AVI or DivX format to play on my Archos AV700 DVR. Tried MPEG Streamclip
which will play them ok but wont convert despite installing the ...

Purpose: to send any audio source to one or more Airport Express units.

Movie silliness12 Feb 2007 22:06 GMT3
Daughter has AVI file which she wishes to put on a web site using iWeb
(web author purists may leave at this point, if they insist!)
Aforesaid movie was recorded with the camera on its side. . .
Quicktime Pro will happily rotate the frame, giving a 'portrait' mode
Running Front Row on a MacBook with lid closed?12 Feb 2007 20:23 GMT-
I have a MacBook (Core Duo with 10.4.8 installed), and a miniDVI to VGA
adapter.  I've connected it up to my Toshiba 32WLT66 TV via VGA, and set
Mirroring on.  With the MacBook closed, I can use the Apple remote to
run Front Row, and can play music and see photos no problem, but ...
from CSMAdvocacy - Dont buy from Miglia Technology - a U.K. company12 Feb 2007 20:02 GMT3
Here's a true story - do with it as you will.
A man bought TV Mini HD from Miglia at Fry's electronics through Fry's
outpost.com online.
It was priced higher than similar US products, he knows now, because TV
Dead hard drives'r'us12 Feb 2007 17:21 GMT7
...but this time it's my fault.
Started the upgrade to my MacBook Pro last night. Wow, what a lot of
pointlessly fiddly screws there are to get to the drive of this
machine. Still, disassembly was relatively easy, swapped the hard drive
EyeTV -> Toast loosing audio12 Feb 2007 15:13 GMT8
I have a problem, in that a recording I made in EyeTV and burnt using
Toast results in a recording without any audio.
I tried selecting "Custom" in the Toast options, but Dolby is already
specified. What am I doing wrong?
