Buffalo Linkstation Pro - filename length17 Feb 2007 16:43 GMT1
I'm on the verge of buying one of these, but I just need to check
something first. I've been reading about people having problems storing
files with names of greater than 32 characters, and I have plenty of
those.

Losing disk space17 Feb 2007 15:45 GMT3
I'm working on a G4 Ti PB and I generally only have a few gigs left to
play with on the HDD (naughty of me, I know - 10-15% is recommended for
VM/swap). Often I'll find the amount of free disk space can vary wildly
over time without me having uploaded/downloaded/deleted or ...

iTunes 7.0.2+Quicktime out - problem downloading?17 Feb 2007 12:07 GMT18
iTunes 7.0.2+Quicktime is showing up in my Software Update, but after
downloading it fails to install, giving a message along the lines of
being unable to expand the package properly.
Anyone else seeing this? 10.4.8, PPC. 13GB+ free on HD.
FTP access to OSX computer17 Feb 2007 10:47 GMT17
I'd like to give up to 4 people internet (ftp) access to certain large
video files on my computer (MDD G4, OSX 10.3.9).  Some of those people
have Windows machines so I assume I can't use AFS.  I've just looked up
ftp in the OSX help and it seems simple - set them up as a user and

Troublesome evening......17 Feb 2007 10:19 GMT51
Partly due to my Mac, and mostly due to Emily's Winbox (grunt!).
I did a bit of maintenance on the PC earlier (it was running slow - as
they do after a while), so I ran all the normal routines - Disk cleanup
and degrag mainly.
Power adapter for UK iceBoko17 Feb 2007 10:19 GMT5
Apparently I can get a new replacement powercable/adapter for my 2001
iBoko from MacAlly for about £35. Is there a cheaper road I might pop
down?
TIA

The Closed University16 Feb 2007 23:11 GMT14
Carol teaches at the Open University, which is very much a Windoze shop.
The OU has now impemented its new system of handling students' work for
assessment (Teacher-Marked Assessments - TMAs), the eTMA system.
This is a really badly-designed system, and requires using a Windoze
Repair times16 Feb 2007 21:06 GMT3
Anyone any experience of repair times? I took my MB in for repair to a local
AASP and today will be the 14th day they've had it, apparently they are
waiting for a part. Seems rather a long time to be without my laptop :-/
Why no router address in System Prefs?16 Feb 2007 20:34 GMT-
Just been trying to get a mate's son's iBook on to the web (10.3.5),
but for some reason, when plugging in the Ethernet cable (NTL/
Telewest), it *doesn't* automatically give a router address in the
prefs - whereas mate's iBook (Tiger) does. Should it? Can't see *any*
