Playing .swf files31 Jan 2007 22:57 GMT4
For some unfathomable reason RealPlayer claims itself to be the default
handler for .swf (Shockwave Flash) files and I thus cannot play .swf
files by double clicking them because RealPlayer starts up only to
promptly say it can't handle them (unsurprisingly).
Darn VLC!31 Jan 2007 22:12 GMT77
I get the impression that recent versions of VLC are not great.  I have
two DVDs from Blockbastard here. DVD Player demands that I change the
region encoding to play them.  Then I remembered that VLC overrides
this. (I have not played DVDs in ages due to previous busted drive).
Target disk mode31 Jan 2007 21:43 GMT2
Does target disk mode only work with firewire? or can you use USB 2.0 ports?
USB Turntable31 Jan 2007 20:41 GMT1
Didn't someone here ask about one of these recently? No idea of the
quality though.

Apple Rip Off?31 Jan 2007 20:17 GMT7
By my reckoning Apple is ripping off it's users in the USA.
Here in the UK you can get Vista Basic for £89 which is the same as
you'd pay for OS X.
On the other hand in the USA you'd only pay $99 for Vista Basic but $129
Glitch in Parallels31 Jan 2007 20:01 GMT2
I just installed Parallels 30 day demo, running Windows XP Pro quite
impressively. But I seem to have run into a minor glitch, originally
when it started, property page view was in a small window, and XP
started in the same window, with the option to go full screen or return
Lock?31 Jan 2007 19:51 GMT5
Can I get my iBook to request a password when the lid is opened (ie when
it wakes from sleep) but NOT when using a screensaver?

Macbook shutdown woes31 Jan 2007 16:07 GMT7
I've had my macbook since September but because I usually use it plugged
in I haven't noticed(that much) this problem.
When using the battery, when it gets below 30% or so it ramdomly shuts
down. No warning about low battery, just shuts right down.

I am not able to use Google Earth with the above. Other than upgrading the

Whilst rooting around for an easy solution to transfer my MP3s to my
HTC Wizard WinMo phone, I came across this gem.  It'll allow you sync
specific playlists/podcasts to usb bulk-storage devices such as SD
cards, Treos, etc.  Unlike just *copying* the files across, it'll also
Apple Reassurance31 Jan 2007 09:58 GMT15
having spent time deliberating and finally moving over to Apple I keep
reading articles that the writing is on the wall ? Apple insider is
quite negative of the future of the company ?
Are things really that bad ? I really don't want to move my stuff over
Aperture users, verdict so far?31 Jan 2007 09:13 GMT8
Now I've been using Aperture for some time, and have experienced most of
the bugs it's got by experience, anybody else beginning to wonder about
the value it presents to various users?
This is the list of bugs I've come across in the latest version:
