BBC web site - can't view video or audio without crashing Safari31 Dec 2006 18:33 GMT4
Any attempt to view a BBC video or audio file crashes Safari. Only
started a few days ago.
Any help?
UK Mac magazines31 Dec 2006 15:45 GMT8
In the UK we have Mac User, Mac Format, MacWorld and iCreate. The
latter is a recent edition - I have a feeling there used to be at least
one other: am I right, and if so, what was it called?
"iTunes user" sues Apple31 Dec 2006 09:15 GMT3
<http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4151009.stm>
Some dork in California is suing Apple because music bought from iTunes
only plays on an iPod. He says he was forced to buy an iPod to take his
tunes with him. Ah, bless.
iSale and general ebay opinions31 Dec 2006 01:29 GMT10
I'm debating buying iSale, the ebay auction manager. I'm an infrequent
seller on ebay, butt one of the -reasons- I'm an infrequent seller is
the preparation time. If I could prepare things more easily, I'd
probably list more often.
LaCie DVD trials & tribulations...30 Dec 2006 20:51 GMT-
I'm having a small problem with my burner... It's a LaCie Porsche Design
thingy - square/brick-shaped one (Firewire). I have in the past put an .avi
file onto a DVD+R, although this was probably a couple of months ago (same
box). Now I'm once again wanting to put stuff onto DVD ( ...

Being only a recent convert, is there no defrag option in OSX ? how do
you tidy up the harddrive ? I am used to having to maintain a PC....

Ooooh, that's quick!30 Dec 2006 18:17 GMT4
I bit the bullet and bought myself 2 gig of RAM for the MacBook today.
Most impressive. Running Parallels and OSX at the same time with very
little loss of speed - the Windows install is a tad sluggish to boot,
'cos I'm doing it from an external FireWire drive.
VHS -> mpeg/DVD30 Dec 2006 17:56 GMT6
I'd like to transfer all my VHS stuff into digital format and wondered
what the best way is to achieve this.
I do have a VHS video recorder with Scart sockets, and need to find a
way of transferring from there onto the Mac. I have tried a Sony
Can I use a Speedtouch ADSL Modem instead of a router?30 Dec 2006 10:57 GMT8
Up to this weekend I've used a D-Link router and Apple Airport to get
Virgin Net broadband and create a wireless network for my iMac.
My router has just died, but I have a Speedtouch 300 ADSL modem that I
got free from the ISP. Can I connect the Speedtouch to the Airport via
Anyone understand Darwin ports?30 Dec 2006 10:04 GMT3
I'm trying to get a Wacom graphics tablet (Graphire 4) to work with the
Gimp and I understand that Apple's X11.app doesn't support the pressure
sensitivity of the tablet even though the Gimp itself does. I am
therefore trying to install XFree86 from Darwin ports. However, I first
Installers and admin passwords30 Dec 2006 09:58 GMT2
What triggers an installer to ask for an admin password?
I thought it was as obvious as 'if you don't have write permission to
Application, you'll be asked for a password' However that turns out not
to be the case - whilst trying to install my own Tivo Podcast on a
Hogwasher updated30 Dec 2006 07:55 GMT56
Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that! Not exactly two years' worth of new
features, but I'm just just happy it hasn't been abandoned.

MacBook Memory, again.....29 Dec 2006 23:55 GMT3
OK, I think I've got this now.
The MacBook takes DDR2-5300, 200-pin, 667MHz, Non-ECC SO-DIMMs.
Crucial want £106 for a 1GB stick.
PC World have some for £79.99
Yet another stupid new shiny question29 Dec 2006 23:52 GMT4
Right, so I have a MacBook. One of the big attractions being that I can
dual boot Windows / run Parallels.
I can't see any obvious way to do this, but can I somehow use a Windows
installation from another machine to do this and save me all the hassle
Well Done Apple29 Dec 2006 23:42 GMT5
Ordered a refurb MacBook 2GHz on Christmas day at 11am.
It arrived today at 11am.
Anything I need to know before migrating all my stuff from the G4 iBook?
