PDF OCR Software06 Nov 2006 16:22 GMT1
Can anyone recommend an application that will perform OCR on scanned
PDF documents? I have used the paper capture option in Acrobat 6.0 but
it sometimes misses whole chunks of text.
Is there anything better - and ideally cheap?
PowerBook killing Internet?06 Nov 2006 12:07 GMT4
The subject line is a little dramatic so let me explain.
I've been having dropouts with my Internet connection quite a lot in the
last couple of weeks. At least once and occasionally twice a day it
happens.
Modding Spotlight to default to find by name06 Nov 2006 11:50 GMT5
I'm sure Clive posted a message here one day detailing how to modify
some bit of Finder or Spotlight, so that hitting Command-F gave a find
window with Name Contains as the default criterion, but I've googled til
my fingers bled and I can't find it.
Query for the Unix-heads06 Nov 2006 10:52 GMT3
When moving to a new Mac using the migration assistant does it cope
with things like MacPorts (PNA DarwinPorts) and the various environment
settings?
Deleting recalcitrant files06 Nov 2006 10:22 GMT7
I've trashed a few files, but can't empty the wastebasket.
The error message just says the files are in use.

I want to get an intel Mini to test apps on Mac OS X under intel to go with
my iMac G5.
I have the Apple Bluetooth mouse and keyboard which I'm using with the iMac.
I know I can use these with the BT equipped mini, but can I do this in a
Address Book Bug?06 Nov 2006 07:45 GMT8
If I use Address Book to print a series of envelopes I seem to have a
problem printing the country. What I want to achieve is that any that
are destined to go abroad show the country, UK addresses do not.
When I set-up the print I opt to print country (except my country) and
Powerbook G4 17" sound out05 Nov 2006 23:54 GMT2
As far as I can see there is only one way to get a sound signal out of
the Powerbook G4 17" - ie the headphone socket.
Can this headphone output be connected to line-in of Roland DM2100
Studio Monitoring system?
looking back on mac experience05 Nov 2006 19:50 GMT175
After reading this NG for many years I thought I would share brief
thoughts with you.
In early 2000 my neighbour got an iMac - my PC was due for replacement,
so I got one as well (a 400dv). Last year I upgraded to a top of the
Omniweb discount sale05 Nov 2006 18:41 GMT2
Anyone intrigued by Omniweb but put off by the fact that it's payware
might be interested to learn that during November it's available for the
price of a couple of pints or so:

Mac compatible AQA exam marking05 Nov 2006 16:56 GMT8
I've been asked by a relative whether there's any problem using an OSX
G3 iMac to do the following:
*******
I've had a letter today  Fri; about the summer 2007 marking of the AQA
