Anyone seen this?

I've seen similar - a popup window that looks like an error message - but
this looks a little more detailed and opens actual system dialogs.

M$ .doc and OS8.629 Nov 2006 21:17 GMT20
My neighbour has a iMac Bondi blue tray loading running OS8.6.
Regularly they receive from their PC friends M$ Word .doc files (probably
from a recent version of Windows) which they are unable to open. Without
upgrading the OS is there any way in which they can read these files? ...
Backups! Pah, who needs 'em?29 Nov 2006 19:25 GMT15
Gah.
Had a Packard Bell (I know) enclosure containing a Seagate 400GB drive. This
was keenly priced at Purple World at the time. I was using this for backups
of stuff that was on other drives but because it was so big, it kind of, er,
Scanning negs..29 Nov 2006 19:17 GMT12
This hasn't come up for a while - what do we we like at the moment for
scanning negatives? Looking for a home scanner, probably around the
£100 mark (although somewhat flexible).
Cheers ... Mark

I found this:

I haven't tested it yet, but I'm sure people have asked about booting iG5
from USB before. I intend to test this sometime after I clone this wonky disk

Nige is the guy in the black t-shirt playing the sunburst Strat on the

FrontRow doesn't play all the songs29 Nov 2006 17:56 GMT-
When I choose an album or a playlist and go for 'shuffle', my Macmini
almost never plays all the songs.
Is that a known bug in the new iTunes?
It worked perfect some time ago.
Software for small children29 Nov 2006 17:45 GMT91
Is anyone able to recommend some educational software suitable for three
or four year old children?
My daughter has pretty much exhausted the CBeebies website.
Thanks,
Fake iChat29 Nov 2006 14:10 GMT1
Is there some quick and easy way to fake a short iChat (or some other
instant messaging thing) conversation? I just need it for educational
purposes - a few lines of chat, in a window.

Totally OT: GCSE Maths homework29 Nov 2006 13:37 GMT9
Argh!
I taught A-level Maths years ago, but am unable to help my daughter with
the 'tools' we're allowed to use:
Given a rectangle with a perimiter of 1000m, prove that the maximum area
Ebay Question for the experts29 Nov 2006 12:16 GMT47
Hi all, - any ebay experts out there ?
I am selling a few items this week including a PSP (not doing so good)
and a PDA. It is the PDA that is weird - the highest bidder is called
"bidder2" and when you click on the bidder it brings up a weird set of
iPod Shuffle 1st Gen Offer29 Nov 2006 12:09 GMT1

Don't know if this should be in the adverts group or here....Just
noticed Argos are doing the 512MB Shuffle for £24.50. I've had my 1GB
one for just over a year and am still really pleased with it.
MacSoup losing Connect to Server29 Nov 2006 11:38 GMT30
Every now and then, but with increasing frequency, I find the two
Connect to Server menu items greyed out, and only quitting MacSoup and
restarting it seems to get them back.
Anyone know why and what might fix it?
Eclipse for Palm development?29 Nov 2006 11:38 GMT16
Can you use Eclipse to develop Palm applications?
Googling implies you can [1], but does it need a bunch of dodgy hacks (to
get it working on OSX or to get it working at all) or does it Just Work?
