annotated directory listing???15 Nov 2006 19:17 GMT4
I need to produce a file, probably Word, which is a list of files in a
folder and against each filename a few words of narrarative about its
contents.
Is there, please, a quick way to get a textfile version of a list of
Firmware updates for Intel Macs15 Nov 2006 18:29 GMT2

Just checked and the iMac one is showing up on Software Update.
Haven't tried with the MBP yet.
[Slightly OT] procmail rule needed15 Nov 2006 16:58 GMT2
My brain isn't working properly - I need a simple rule in procmail to move a
message to my 'spam' mbox if it's to a certain address and *doesn't* have a a
certain header.
So, I currently have a lot of rules along the lines of:
Travel adaptors15 Nov 2006 16:38 GMT1
If I take my MBP with me to Iceland next month (Brr!) will I just be
able to use a standard 3-pin to 2-pin (round) adapter and plug it into
the mains over there? It's 220v, so I'm expecting that it shouldn't be
a problem.
Performance of Virtual PC on 1.8 G515 Nov 2006 16:29 GMT3
I've noticed prices for second hand 1.8 G5 Powermacs tumbling recently
and quite fancy one to take over audio and video tasks from my 800MHz
iBook. I'm also keen to consign my PC to the great Trash Bin in the sky
(I get my Windows fix 8 hours a day at work). I only have a couple ...
Mail.app - see number of messages downloading?15 Nov 2006 15:58 GMT6
Is there any add on I can get for Mail that will show me the number of
messages downloading?  I.e. message x of y?  I'm getting that much spam
these days that I'd like to know when it's about to finish.  Seems a
simple thing that's present in most other mail readers.
iTunes plays but Front Row doesn't.15 Nov 2006 14:45 GMT-
What is wrong when I can play music I bought at the iTunes store in
iTunes, but not through Front Row, because the message 'this computer is
not authorized' etcetera pops up?
(The computer IS authorized of course and I have the latest OS & iTunes
Thornbury QuickNurse - Mac Java issue?15 Nov 2006 11:22 GMT4

Once you log in, it only seems to work with iCab, of all the Mac
browsers. Safari and Firefox go into beachball mode. IE apparently also
stalls.
Another silly app request15 Nov 2006 11:17 GMT4
Currently I open up a whole shedload of QT Players for the various sounds I
(may) need to play during a podcast. It works, but it takes up a lot of screen
space. Anyone know of an app that would do the same thing (ie have a lot of
sounds that are individually playable) but takes up ...

Unison Problem15 Nov 2006 08:14 GMT3
I have been having a problem with Unison over the last few days,
initially on my PowerBook and now on a MacBook Pro. I find that when I
start the application, the unread message count (in reality unfetched
header count) in the favorites drawer does not seem to be refreshing.

The biggest hurdle in directly comparing Mac OS X Leopard against
Windows Vista is that Apple and Microsoft have very different marketing
